Professional Installation Strongly Recommended This landing gear system requires welding expertise and proper frame modifications. Installation steps include: removing existing landing gear, preparing frame mounting locations with weld-on brackets, positioning and welding jack assemblies to frame rails, mounting pump assemblies and weatherproof control box, running hydraulic lines and electrical wiring to house batteries, installing 120-amp breaker in battery box, bleeding hydraulic system with Dexron III ATF, and testing all functions for proper operation. Front jacks must use QEII-30 or QEI-24 models with minimum 12-inch long weld-on brackets. Get maximum weld coverage on front brackets to frame. Verify jacks are straight and level before welding. Ensure bottom of jack and footpad clear trailer exterior with 8-11 inches ground clearance. Front jacks require minimum six 7/16" x 1.75" bolts per jack, tightened to 70 ft-lbs torque. Hydraulic Components: β’ Two QEII-30 Hydraulic Jack Cylinders (30" stroke, 17,000 lb capacity each) β’ Two Marine-Grade Pump Assemblies with Motors β’ Hydraulic Hoses (Universal Length) β’ JIC Hydraulic Fittings β’ Two Limit Switches with Clevis Pins Electrical Components: β’ Weatherproof Control Box with Toggle Switches β’ Main Wire Harness (14-pin connector) β’ Battery Cable Harness with Eyelets β’ 120-Amp In-Line Circuit Breaker β’ 5 Feet of 4 AWG Battery Wire Mounting Hardware: β’ Two Weld-On Steel Mounting Brackets (Minimum 12" length) β’ Two 10-Inch Foot Pads β’ Mounting Bolts, Nuts, and Lock Washers (7/16" x 1.75") β’ Installation Hardware Kit NOT Included (Purchase Separately): β’ Dexron III Automatic Transmission Fluid (2 quarts required for system bleeding) β’ Professional Installation Labor
Professional Installation Mandatory: This system requires certified welding to your 5th wheel frame. Improper installation can result in frame damage, system failure, or trailer instability. Front jack installations are particularly challenging on 5th wheels due to limited compartment space and proper frame access. Frame Preparation: Existing landing gear and brackets must be removed before installation. Front jacks require minimum 12-inch weld-on brackets with maximum weld coverage to frame. Verify adequate clearance inside front compartment before ordering. Electrical System: System draws power from house batteries, not vehicle battery. 120-amp breaker must be installed in-line between battery and system. Inadequate wire gauge or loose connections can cause voltage drops and pump failure. Warranty Registration Required: Ownership must be registered within 30 days from purchase date to activate warranty coverage. Register online at bigfootleveler.com or call 269-483-9633.
While hydraulic systems require professional installation, the performance advantages and reliability make them the preferred choice for serious RVers who demand the best from their equipment.
Regular Maintenance Tasks: β’ Check hydraulic fluid level in reservoirs - maintain ΒΎ" from top, never overfill β’ Use only Dexron III ATF (or Dexron II, ATF+4, Mercon, Mercon V) β’ Inspect hydraulic lines and fittings for leaks every 3 months β’ Spray cylinder rams with Teflon or dry lubricant to prevent squeaking β’ Check footpad tightness with impact wrench - loose pads cause limit switch issues β’ Tighten mounting bolts to 70 ft-lbs torque specification annually β’ Keep battery fully charged - system requires nearly 100% battery charge to operate Common Issues and Solutions: β’ Jacks Won't Extend/Retract: Check battery charge first, verify 120-amp breaker not tripped, inspect wire connections at pump solenoids β’ System Won't Turn On: Verify house battery voltage (12.4V minimum), check fuse/breaker, inspect ground connections β’ Jacks "Creep" Down When Parked: Check hydraulic fluid level, bleed system, inspect for leaking fittings or failed relief valves β’ Limit Switch Not Working: Verify ΒΌ" clevis pin installed properly, check 1β " barrel height (not 1"), replace switch if damaged β’ Hydraulic Leak: Tighten loose fittings with 5/8" wrench (do not overtighten), inspect hoses for damage, check cylinder seals
