The Cavagna 52-A-490-0020 is the POL-inlet variant of Cavagna's compact two-stage RV propane regulator series — combining three safety and convenience features: a POL (Prest-O-Lite) inlet with integrated excess flow device, a built-in manual shut-off valve, and two-stage pressure regulation delivering stable 11" WC output. The POL inlet with excess flow device connects to propane tanks with POL valves (the wrench-tighten, left-hand-thread fitting common on 100-lb cylinders and some RV tanks) and limits gas flow automatically if a downstream hose ruptures or disconnects accidentally. The shut-off valve allows gas to be closed at the regulator without going to the tank. Two-stage design reduces variable tank pressure to 10 psi in stage one, then to stable 11" WC in stage two. Horizontal vent orientation, horizontal mount. UL and CSA listed.

An excess flow device (EFD) is an automatic safety shutoff built into the POL inlet that triggers if gas flow exceeds a set limit — the condition that occurs when a downstream hose ruptures, separates from a fitting, or is accidentally disconnected while the tank is open. Without an EFD, a ruptured hose would release propane freely until someone manually closed the tank valve. With an EFD, gas flow is limited automatically within seconds of the event. If your existing regulator has an EFD at the POL inlet (check for a small yellow indicator or marking), the -0020 is the correct like-for-like replacement.
The -0020 uses a POL (Prest-O-Lite) inlet — the wrench-tighten, left-hand-thread fitting used on 100-lb cylinders and some RV tanks. It will not connect to QCC1 (handwheel) valves used on standard 20-lb tanks. If your RV tank uses a 1/4" FNPT or QCC1 connection, use the 52-A-490-0018 (no shut-off valve) or 52-A-490-0019 (with shut-off valve) instead.
