What a coupler lock does is deter opportunistic theft and significantly increase the time, effort, and noise required to steal your trailer — making most thieves move on to an easier target. The Fortress is designed to be as resistant as possible to the most common attack methods: picking, drilling, prying, and cutting. Combined with a locking hitch pin when the trailer is attached (such as the Fastway 86-00-3050), and a quality wheel chock or chain when in storage, you create multiple deterrent layers that substantially reduce your theft risk. Coupler size: Confirm your trailer uses a 1-7/8", 2", or 2-5/16" tongue-type coupler before ordering. This lock does not fit pintle hitches or gooseneck ball couplers.
Securing Your Trailer: 1. Open the Coupler: Raise the coupler latch to the open position 2. Position the Shackle: Insert the Fortress U-shackle into the coupler opening — the reversible design allows orientation in either direction to best fit your specific coupler style 3. Close the Coupler Latch: Lower the coupler latch over the shackle 4. Lock: Turn the key 1/4 turn to engage the dual locking pins — both ends of the shackle lock simultaneously 5. Remove Key and Cover Keyhole: Remove the key and close the hinged dust cover 6.
