Keep your trailer brakes properly adjusted and performing safely with this genuine Lippert replacement kit. Designed for do-it-yourself brake service on Lippert and Dexter drum brakes, this two-piece kit delivers the exact hardware needed to restore correct shoe-to-drum clearance on a wide range of popular 10" and 12" brake assemblies.
A worn or missing brake adjustment screw is one of the most common causes of soft, inconsistent trailer braking. This Lippert kit gives you the complete replacement hardware in one package -- no hunting for individual components or sourcing aftermarket substitutes that may not fit the adjuster pocket correctly.
The kit covers some of the most widely used drum brake sizes in the RV and trailer industry, making it a practical stock item for anyone who services their own rig or maintains a fleet of trailers.
Includes the adjustment screw assembly and return spring -- both components needed for a full adjuster replacement.
Compatible with Lippert and Dexter 10" x 1-1/2", 10" x 2-1/4", and 12" x 2" drum brake assemblies.
Fits both electric and hydraulic brake variants in the covered drum sizes -- one kit serves multiple brake types.
OEM-sourced replacement hardware engineered to match original adjuster geometry for accurate brake shoe positioning.
The adjustment screw (also called a star wheel adjuster or self-adjuster assembly) sits between the primary and secondary brake shoes inside the drum. It sets the running clearance between the shoe lining and the drum surface. When the screw mechanism wears, seizes, or breaks, the brakes can no longer maintain proper adjustment -- resulting in reduced stopping power, uneven lining wear, or a brake that drags.
Replacing this component restores the self-adjusting function of the brake assembly and is a normal part of a brake service or rebuild.
This kit is confirmed to fit the following drum brake configurations from Lippert and Dexter:
The two numbers in your brake size (e.g., 10" x 2-1/4") refer to the drum diameter and the shoe width. This information is typically stamped on the brake backing plate or found on the axle certification label inside your RV or trailer. Confirm your drum diameter and shoe width before ordering.
Replace the brake adjuster assembly during any of the following situations:
When replacing the adjustment screw assembly, clean the adjuster pocket and surrounding area of the backing plate. Apply a small amount of brake-rated grease to the adjuster threads before installation. After reassembly, manually back the adjuster out until light drag is felt when spinning the drum by hand, then back off slightly. Road-test and re-check after the first 50 miles of use.
For a full brake rebuild, consider also sourcing Lippert or Dexter brake shoes, brake magnets (for electric brake variants), and any hardware clips or retaining springs specific to your brake assembly. Replacing the full hardware set at each service interval reduces the chance of a single worn component compromising the entire assembly.
