The leaf spring shackles on most production travel trailers are made from relatively thin stock material — adequate for moderate use, but prone to elongating and wearing out under the stress of heavier loads, frequent travel on rough roads, or general long-term use. Once a shackle bracket elongates, it compromises the geometry of the entire leaf spring suspension, leading to uneven ride, increased tire wear, and eventual failure.
The MORryde UO12-021 replaces those stock shackles with heavy-duty 1/2" shackle brackets — significantly thicker and stronger than the standard 1/4" shackle material used by most OEM manufacturers. The 1/2" thickness dramatically reduces the likelihood of elongation, even under demanding conditions. Beyond the stronger shackle brackets, the kit includes bronze bushings and greaseable "wet bolts" — a combination that enables periodic lubrication of the bushing interfaces, which standard solid bolts don't allow. Greasing the wet bolts every 6,000–10,000 miles or twice a year significantly extends the life of both the bushings and the bolts. The kit is designed for tandem axle trailers running Rigid Equalizer suspension with 3-1/8" shackles.

The UO12-021 is a specific configuration — confirm all three of the following before ordering: 1. Shackle size — 3-1/8": This kit is for trailers with 3-1/8" shackles. If your trailer has 2-1/4" shackles, see UO12-016 instead. Measure your existing shackle length before ordering — ordering the wrong shackle length will result in incorrect suspension geometry. 2. Axle configuration — Tandem: This kit is sized for tandem axle trailers. For triple axle, see UO12-024. 3. Suspension type: This kit is compatible with stock leaf spring suspension with 3-1/8" shackles and Rigid Equalizer suspension with 3-1/8" shackles. It is not the correct kit for SRE4000, CRE3000, or LRE suspension systems — see the appropriate kit for those systems. OEM Correct Track Hanger note: MORryde's wet bolts require an OEM Correct Track Hanger alignment system (identifiable by an octagon-shaped washer on end frame hangers) if that option is desired. This must be factory-installed. If installed aftermarket, original bolts must be used.
Standard suspension bolts are solid — once installed, the bushing interface has no way to receive lubrication, which means the bolt and bushing wear against each other dry until they fail. "Wet bolts" are hollow greaseable bolts with a grease fitting (zerk) on the end. Grease injected through the fitting travels through the hollow bolt and out through small holes into the bushing interface, lubricating the contact surfaces. This dramatically reduces friction and wear at the shackle pivot points, extending the service life of both the bushing and the bolt. MORryde recommends using high-temp lithium grease and greasing the wet bolts twice per year or every 6,000–10,000 miles, whichever comes first. The combination of bronze bushings (which hold and distribute grease effectively) and wet bolts is a meaningful upgrade over dry solid-bolt systems found in most production trailers.
General Installation Steps: 1. Verify Compatibility: Confirm 3-1/8" shackle size, tandem axle, and suspension type match this kit before beginning 2. Support the Trailer: Use appropriate jack stands to safely support the trailer frame — never work under a trailer supported only by a jack 3. Remove Stock Shackles: Remove the existing OEM shackle brackets, bolts, and bushings 4. Install Bronze Bushings: Press the included bronze bushings into the shackle bracket and hanger mounting holes 5. Install New Shackle Brackets: Position the 1/2" shackle brackets and thread the wet bolts through with the Loctite nuts 6. Torque to Spec: Tighten to the torque specification in the included instructions — do NOT over-tighten 7.
