BatteryMINDer 12V / 2 Amp IP65 Weatherproof Charge and Maintain Your Battery Through the OBD2 Port -- No Hood Required

The BatteryMINDer 2012-OBD2 lets you keep any 12V lead-acid battery fully charged, maintained, and desulfated by plugging directly into the vehicle's On-Board Diagnostic (OBD2) port -- the same port your mechanic uses for diagnostics, located under the dashboard above the brake pedal. No battery clamps, no popping the hood, no corrosion risks. Just plug in the AC cord and walk away.

Smart Battery Care Without Touching a Terminal

Modern vehicles, RVs, boats, and stored seasonal equipment all share one common problem: batteries sulfate and discharge during storage or periods of low use. The 2012-OBD2 solves this with BatteryMINDer's U.S.-patented high-frequency pulse desulfation -- applied automatically, continuously, without overcharging. The SmarTECHnology microprocessor monitors battery condition in real time and adjusts charge rate accordingly.

Because the connection is made through the OBD2 port rather than the battery posts, there is no sparking risk at the battery, no need to remove covers or access panels, and no chance of accidentally reversing polarity on sensitive electronics. This is especially useful on vehicles with batteries buried in the trunk, under seats, or behind panels.

OBD2 Port Connection

Plugs into the standard 16-pin OBD2 diagnostic port found in all passenger vehicles and many RVs built after 1996. No direct battery access needed.

High-Frequency Desulfation

U.S.-patented automatic pulse desulfation dissolves lead sulfate crystals to recover battery capacity and extend service life -- without high-voltage spikes.

8-LED Diagnostic Display

Individual LEDs indicate: power on, battery connection, battery weak, load present, testing mode, desulfating, temperature compensation active, and bad cell detected.

Maintains Up to 6 Batteries

Using optional Y-Connectors (sold separately, part 210AY), one unit can simultaneously maintain up to six batteries in parallel -- useful for multi-battery RV banks.

Who This Charger Is Built For

The 2012-OBD2 is a practical tool for:

  • RV owners who store their rig seasonally and want effortless battery maintenance without opening the bay
  • Full-timers who plug in at campgrounds and want a dedicated maintenance charger separate from their converter
  • Weekend warriors with tow vehicles, ATVs, motorcycles, or boats that sit between trips
  • Fleets and dealers maintaining multiple vehicles simultaneously
  • Anyone with a battery buried under panels where clamp access is awkward or time-consuming
Plug 'n Run Operation: There are no buttons to push and no settings to configure. Plug the AC cord into shore power, insert the OBD2 connector into the vehicle port, and the charger automatically begins its charge-maintain-desulfate cycle. Disconnect AC power at any time -- the unit automatically resumes when power is restored.

Battery Types Supported

The 2012-OBD2 safely charges and maintains all standard 12V lead-acid battery chemistries:

  • Flooded / wet cell (standard and deep cycle)
  • Maintenance-free sealed lead-acid (SLA)
  • AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat)
  • Gel cell

Note: This charger is designed for 12V lead-acid batteries only. It is not compatible with lithium (LiFePO4) battery chemistries.

OBD2 Port Location: The OBD2 port is standardized in all U.S. passenger vehicles and light trucks built after 1996. It is typically located under the dashboard on the driver's side, above the brake pedal. In most vehicles it is accessible without tools and provides a direct electrical path to the vehicle's 12V battery.

Temperature Compensation and Protection

The built-in SmarTECHnology microprocessor adjusts charge voltage based on ambient temperature, preventing undercharge in cold weather and overcharge in heat -- a critical feature for RVs exposed to wide temperature swings. An LED indicator confirms when temperature compensation is actively modifying the charge profile.

The unit also includes full electronic protection against short circuits, reverse polarity, sparking, and thermal runaway. If AC input is interrupted (a tripped breaker, a campground power outage), the charger automatically disconnects and then resumes normal operation when power is restored.

Maintenance Tip: For batteries that have been deeply discharged or are showing "battery weak" on the LED display, leave the 2012-OBD2 connected for an extended period (24-72 hours). The desulfation cycle works gradually; heavily sulfated batteries may require multiple charge-desulfate cycles before reaching full capacity.

What Is Included

  • BatteryMINDer 2012-OBD2 charger/maintainer unit
  • OBD2 connector plug (SAE to OBD2)
  • 5.5 ft. AC power cord
  • 5.5 ft. DC output cord

Important Information -- Read Before Use
  • This charger is designed for 12V lead-acid batteries only (flooded, AGM, gel, sealed). It is NOT compatible with 24V systems or lithium (LiFePO4) batteries.
  • Minimum battery voltage to initiate charging is 3V DC. Batteries discharged below this threshold cannot be recovered by this unit.
  • The OBD2 connection method requires the vehicle's OBD2 port to have a direct or near-direct electrical path to the battery. Some vehicles with smart power management systems may isolate the OBD2 port when the ignition is off -- verify continuity before relying solely on the OBD2 connection. The included battery clip cord set can be used as an alternative connection point.
  • Operating temperature range is 14 deg F to 104 deg F. Do not use outside this range.
  • IP65 weatherproofing means the unit resists water jets and dust ingress but is not submersion-rated. Do not immerse.
  • A "Bad Cell" LED indication means one or more battery cells have failed internally. Desulfation cannot recover a physically failed cell; the battery should be replaced.
  • Y-Connectors (part 210AY) required for multi-battery operation are sold separately and are not included with this unit.
  • Do not use with non-rechargeable (primary) batteries.
