Three-stage, input current-limited DC-DC charger that connects directly to the trailer plug, keeping an auxiliary trailer battery charged while towing without drawing down the tow vehicle's start battery.
The Redarc BCDC1212T is a three-stage DC-DC battery charger that connects directly to the trailer plug, drawing 12V auxiliary power from the tow vehicle's pre-installed, suitably rated towing harness. It's designed to charge a trailer's auxiliary battery to 100% state of charge while on the move, reducing the need to plug into mains power to top up the battery afterward. The charger's input current is limited to 12A, protecting the tow vehicle's start battery from excessive discharge while the trailer battery charges.
It's well suited to tipper trailers, dump trailers, boat trailers, car trailers, liftgate trucks, and camper vans running electrical accessories such as hydraulic pumps, winches, and fridges. The charger works with 12V or 24V vehicle systems and is compatible with all common battery chemistries, including standard lead acid, calcium, gel, AGM, and lithium (LiFePO4). It's sealed against dust and water ingress and rated to operate in extreme heat up to 176°F, making it suited to demanding trailer nose cone installations.
This model does not include an MPPT solar regulator and cannot charge from solar panels. It charges exclusively through the trailer plug connection to the tow vehicle. If solar charging capability is needed, look at Redarc's BCDC Trailer S range (such as the BCDC1212S) instead, which combines trailer plug charging with a built-in MPPT solar regulator.
Redarc recommends its FK23 fuse kit for the input side and FK30 fuse kit for the output side of this charger, both sold separately, to ensure safe and reliable operation.
