The fast, affordable way to blow your RV fresh water lines clear before freezing weather arrives. Threads directly into your RV city water inlet and accepts any standard tire-inflator-style air chuck -- no special fittings required.
The Camco 36133 blow out plug is one of the simplest tools in a seasonal RV winterizing kit. Instead of running gallons of pink antifreeze through every line, many RV owners prefer to blow the system clear with compressed air first -- reducing how much antifreeze is needed, or eliminating it entirely for rigs stored in moderately cold climates.
The plug threads into the standard city water inlet on the exterior of your RV. The built-in Schrader valve (the same valve stem used on automotive and bicycle tires) accepts a tire inflator-style chuck from any air compressor or 12V portable inflator. Once connected, air pressure forces water out through the open faucets, showerhead, and toilet flush valve you open one at a time inside the rig.
Accepts any standard tire-inflator chuck -- no proprietary adapters needed.
Threads directly onto the standard 3/4 in. GHT male fitting found on most RV city water inlets.
Lightweight black plastic construction resists corrosion and stores easily in a tool bag or junk drawer.
Works with most travel trailers, fifth wheels, motorhomes, and toy haulers that use a standard city water inlet.
Using the blow out plug correctly takes about 15 minutes for a typical RV. Follow this general sequence:
Blowing out with air is fastest and leaves no antifreeze taste to flush in spring. However, air alone may not fully protect traps, valves, and low spots in complex plumbing layouts. Many RV technicians recommend following the blow-out with a small amount of RV antifreeze poured into each drain trap as a secondary safeguard -- especially in climates that regularly drop below 20 deg F.
RV fresh water plumbing fittings and flexible tubing are not rated for high shop-air pressure. Most manufacturers recommend no more than 30 PSI for blowing out lines, with an absolute ceiling of 50 PSI. Using a regulated compressor or an inline pressure regulator is strongly advised. A portable 12V tire inflator also works well and naturally limits pressure. Never use an unregulated shop compressor directly.
A Schrader valve is the spring-loaded valve stem found on car tires, bike tubes, and many pressure gauges. It is the global standard for pneumatic fittings at low-to-moderate pressures. Any tire chuck, inflator needle adapter, or ball pump with a standard automotive chuck will connect to the valve on the Camco 36133 without modification.
When you recommission your RV in spring, remove the blow out plug before connecting to city water or filling the fresh tank. The Schrader valve will hold pressure and will prevent normal water flow if left installed. Store the plug in a zip-lock bag labeled with the season so it is easy to find next fall.
