The draft inducer motor pulls combustion gases out of the heat exchanger and vents them safely through the flue before and during each burner cycle. Modern induced-draft furnaces use a sealed combustion blower -- the draft inducer -- mounted at the heat exchanger outlet. It runs for a short pre-purge cycle, trips the pressure switch to confirm airflow is established, and then stays on through the entire burner cycle. If the motor is weak, seized, or electrically open, the furnace control board will not allow ignition.
