Camco 40177 Replacement Vent Lid -- Black Polypropylene

A direct-fit replacement lid for Ventline roof vents manufactured before 2008 and Elixir roof vents manufactured after 1994. Ships pre-assembled with mounting hardware included -- swap it out in minutes without special tools.

Stop the Leaks and UV Damage Before They Get Worse

A cracked, faded, or broken vent lid is more than an eyesore -- it is an open invitation for water intrusion, UV exposure, and road debris to enter your RV. Camco's 40177 replacement lid is purpose-built to restore a weathertight seal on the most common 14 x 14 inch roof vent configurations found in production RVs from the mid-1990s onward.

If your rig runs a Ventline vent built before 2008 or an Elixir vent built after 1994, this lid drops right in. No cutting, no trimming, no adapter kits. The reinforced center bar keeps the lid from flexing or bowing under wind load at highway speeds, and the black polypropylene construction holds up to seasonal temperature swings better than painted metal alternatives.

Impact-Resistant Polypropylene

Engineered-grade black polypropylene resists cracking from hail, branches, and road debris better than standard ABS plastic lids.

Reinforced Center Bar

Structural center bar prevents lid flex and warping at highway speeds, maintaining a consistent seal around the vent frame perimeter.

Pre-Assembled and Ready to Install

Lid arrives fully assembled. Hardware is included so you are not hunting down metric screws or making a hardware store run before the job.

Broad Fitment Coverage

Covers the two most common OEM roof vent brands found in production RVs: Ventline (pre-2008) and Elixir (post-1994) on standard 14 x 14 in. openings.

Fitment Details -- Read Before You Order

This lid is designed to fit the following configurations:

  • Ventline roof vents manufactured before 2008 -- includes the most common Ventline vent families used throughout the production RV industry during that era.
  • Elixir roof vents manufactured after 1994 -- covers the post-redesign Elixir frames that became standard across many RV OEM lines in the mid-1990s.
  • Standard 14 x 14 inch vent opening -- the most common RV roof vent footprint in North America.

If your vent is a Ventline built after 2008 or an Elixir built before 1994, this lid is not the correct replacement. Check the date code or model label on your existing vent frame before ordering.

What Is Included in the Box

  • 1 x pre-assembled black polypropylene vent lid (Camco 40177)
  • Mounting hardware (screws for attachment to existing vent frame)

The vent frame, inner hatch, and any vent fan or screen are not included. This is a lid replacement only.

Installation Overview

Replacing an RV vent lid is a straightforward rooftop job for most DIY owners:

  • Remove the screws or clips securing the old lid to the vent frame hinge bracket.
  • Lift off the damaged lid and discard.
  • Align the Camco 40177 lid with the existing hinge points on the vent frame.
  • Secure using the included hardware. Do not overtighten -- polypropylene is strong but does not need excessive torque on the mounting screws.
  • Open and close the lid several times to confirm smooth operation and proper seating on the frame perimeter.

Material and UV Performance

Black polypropylene naturally absorbs and dissipates heat rather than reflecting it, and the material is UV-stabilized to resist surface chalking and brittleness over multiple seasons. This makes it a durable choice for rigs parked in full-sun desert or southern climates where white plastic lids tend to oxidize and crack faster.

Maintenance Tips

  • Inspect the lid seal and hinge area each season, especially after winter storage.
  • Clean with mild soap and water. Avoid petroleum-based cleaners that can degrade polypropylene over time.
  • Apply a thin bead of self-leveling lap sealant around the vent frame base (not the lid) if the original sealant shows cracking -- this protects the roof decking, not the lid itself.
  • If the lid prop rod or arm is also damaged, replace it at the same time to avoid putting stress on the new lid hardware.

Important Information

  • Verify your vent brand and manufacture date before ordering. This lid fits Ventline vents built BEFORE 2008 and Elixir vents built AFTER 1994 only. Ordering for the wrong date range will result in a non-fitting part.
  • This is a lid replacement only -- the vent frame, inner hatch, fan, and screen are not included and are sold separately.
  • Do not use this lid on powered roof vents (Fan-Tastic, Maxxair, or similar) -- lid geometry is not compatible with those vent frames.
  • Rooftop work carries a fall risk. Use proper ladder safety, non-slip footwear, and a spotter when working on RV roofs. Know your roof's weight rating before walking it.
  • Do not overtighten mounting screws into polypropylene. Snug is sufficient -- excessive torque can crack the lid mounting tabs.
