When your Traeger pellet grill is running too hot, too cold, or swinging wildly between temps, the RTD temperature sensor probe is usually the culprit. The BAC194 is a direct OEM-spec replacement probe -- 7 inches of sensing length paired with a 48-inch lead cord -- designed to restore accurate temperature feedback to your grill's digital controller so every cook stays on target.
The temperature sensor probe (also called an RTD probe, or Resistance Temperature Detector) is the critical link between your grill's cooking chamber and its digital controller. It continuously monitors the internal air temperature and sends that reading to the controller, which then adjusts the auger feed rate and fan speed to hold your target temp. A failing or failed probe causes erratic temperature swings, runaway heat, or error codes on the controller display.
Replacing a worn or damaged probe is one of the most straightforward maintenance jobs on a Traeger grill. The BAC194 drops into the existing probe mount in the cooking chamber wall, routes the 48-inch cord back through the grill body, and plugs into the controller port -- typically a 15-20 minute swap with basic hand tools.
Designed to the original Traeger specification -- correct probe diameter, thread engagement, and connector type for compatible models.
Long enough to route cleanly from the probe mount through the grill body to the controller without pulling or kinking.
Accurate RTD sensing helps the controller maintain setpoint temps within a tight range, reducing over- and under-shooting.
At 0.1 lb, the probe adds no burden to the grill structure. Most installs require only a screwdriver and a few minutes.
RTD probes degrade over time from heat cycling, grease buildup, and physical contact damage. Common symptoms of a failing probe include:
Before replacing the controller board, always replace the probe first -- it is the less expensive component and is the more common failure point.
