The convection blower (also called the distribution blower or room blower) is one of the two fans inside your pellet stove. While the exhaust/combustion blower pulls air through the firebox and out the flue, the convection blower circulates room air across the stove's heat exchanger and pushes the heated air through the front openings of the stove into your living space.
Without a working convection blower, the heat stays trapped inside the stove instead of reaching your room. The stove overheats internally, the high-limit safety switch trips, and the control board shuts down the pellet feed. Your stove is telling you – if you know what to look for: • Overheat error code on the control board – the #1 sign of a failing convection blower • Blower runs but pushes very little air – you can barely feel warm air coming from the stove's front vents • Stove starts up but won't feed pellets – the blower stays on and the auger never kicks in (the board senses overheating and refuses to feed fuel) • High-limit switch keeps tripping – the stove shuts down repeatedly after short runs • Blower is noticeably louder than normal – grinding, squealing, or rattling sounds from the motor • Blower doesn't spin at all – motor has failed completely • Room isn't heating like it used to – the firebox is hot but your room stays cold Before replacing: First clean the blower wheel thoroughly – dust, pet hair, and ash buildup on the squirrel cage fan can reduce airflow dramatically. If cleaning doesn't restore normal airflow and the symptoms persist, the motor needs to be replaced.
The NBK 20147 is a direct aftermarket replacement for the US Stove OEM convection blower (part #80472A). It's built to the same specifications and mounts in the same location using the same bolt pattern and wiring connections. What you get:
The original OEM blower was part number 80472. US Stove updated the design in 2014 and added an internal cooling fan on the back of the motor, then changed the part number to 80472A. The cooling fan keeps the motor running at lower temperatures, which extends its lifespan significantly. If your stove's parts manual calls for 80472, the 80472A (and this NBK 20147 replacement) will work perfectly – it's the same blower with the cooling fan improvement. Replacing the convection blower is a straightforward job that most handy homeowners can do in 30-60 minutes. No specialized tools required – just a screwdriver and possibly a nut driver.
• Always unplug the stove before working on it – 115V electricity is present at the blower wiring • Let the stove cool completely – the heat exchanger and surrounding metal can cause burns • The motor may look slightly different from your original – the mounting holes, housing, and connections are the same, but the motor body may be a bit wider due to the rear cooling fan. This is normal and does not affect fitment • Wire connection is simple – two wires, either one to either terminal. There is no polarity to worry about • Replace the gasket – always use the new gasket included with the blower. The gasket dampens vibration and seals the blower housing to the stove
If your convection blower failed and allowed the stove to overheat, the high-limit safety snap disc switch may have been stressed or damaged by the excessive heat. It's good practice to replace the high-limit switch at the same time you replace the convection blower. This is inexpensive insurance against the stove immediately tripping the high-limit again after the repair.
The #1 reason convection blowers lose performance is dust, pet hair, and ash buildup on the squirrel cage fan wheel inside the housing. Over time, this buildup reduces airflow, which makes the stove run hotter internally and can eventually trip the high-limit switch.
