Every time your RV entry door swings open hard, it risks slicing into your awning fabric -- a repair that costs far more than a simple guard. The JR Products Awning Saver (01-1016) mounts between the door and the awning, intercepting that contact before damage can happen. Install it permanently or slide it out when you don't need it -- your choice, every time.

Stop Entry Door Damage Before It Starts

RV awning fabric is surprisingly vulnerable to repeated contact with door edges and door frames. Over a season of use, that repeated impact tears seams, punctures fabric, and ultimately shortens the life of a costly awning. The JR Products 01-1016 Awning Saver inserts a heavy-duty plastic roller between the door edge and the awning, absorbing that contact and redirecting the force harmlessly.

Unlike adhesive-only solutions, the 01-1016 uses a bracket-and-roller system: the bracket mounts permanently to the door frame or awning arm, and the roller slides into the bracket when needed -- or is removed entirely for storage or travel. The zinc-plated steel bracket resists the corrosion and rust that plague bare metal in outdoor RV environments.

Removable Roller Design

Roller slides into the mounted bracket when protection is needed and pulls out just as easily for travel or when the awning is retracted.

Zinc-Plated Steel Bracket

Zinc plating guards against outdoor corrosion and rust, keeping the bracket functional season after season without pitting or seizing.

Screen Door Disc Included

A screen door protector disc is included in the kit to also guard against screen frame contact -- a common secondary damage point.

Extra-Wide Plastic Roller

The heavy-duty, extra-wide roller distributes door contact across a larger surface area, preventing concentrated pressure from cutting into awning fabric.

Permanent or Removable -- You Decide

The bracket installs once in the 1-1/4" mounting area on your door frame or awning support arm. After that, the awning saver roller simply slides in and out of the bracket. If you're heading into a campsite where the awning will stay retracted, pull the roller out and stow it inside. When you deploy the awning, slide it back in and you're protected.

Screen Door Protected Too -- The included screen door protector disc attaches to the screen door to prevent the door frame from directly contacting and snagging awning fabric when the screen door is opened. Two common damage points addressed in one kit.

Installation Overview

Installation is straightforward and requires only basic hand tools:

  • Position the bracket in the 1-1/4" mounting area on the door frame or awning arm bracket.
  • Fasten the 2-1/2" bracket securely using the provided hardware (self-tapping screws typical for this application).
  • Slide the roller into the bracket -- it should move freely in and out.
  • Attach the screen door protector disc to the screen door frame at the point of awning contact.
Tip: Before drilling, open the entry door fully and observe exactly where the door edge or frame contacts the awning arm or fabric. Position the bracket so the roller intercepts that specific contact point. A few minutes of observation before mounting pays off in correct placement.

Who Needs This

This awning saver is especially valuable for:

  • Travel trailers and fifth wheels where the entry door is directly adjacent to a slide-out awning or main awning arm.
  • Motorhomes with a baggage door or entry door close to an awning arm.
  • Any rig where the door swings open in wind or in a sloped site and makes repeated contact with the awning.
  • Full-timers and frequent campers who rack up higher door-cycle counts and face greater cumulative risk of awning fabric damage.
Maintenance Tip: Periodically inspect the roller for cracks or flat spots, especially after cold-weather camping. Brittle plastic rollers are less effective at absorbing impact. Also check that the bracket mounting screws remain tight -- vibration during towing can back them out over time.

Important Information
  • This product protects against door-to-awning contact only -- it does not repair existing awning fabric tears or reinforce damaged awning arms.
  • Correct bracket placement is critical. The roller must physically intercept the contact point between door and awning. Misplaced installation provides no protection.
  • Not intended for use as a structural support. Do not use the bracket or roller to prop or hold the awning arm in any position.
  • Inspect mounting screws before and after the first tow to verify they have not backed out due to vibration.
  • Roller is plastic and may become brittle in extreme cold. Inspect for cracking if used in sub-freezing conditions.
  • Mounting hardware requirements vary by rig surface material. Use fasteners appropriate for aluminum, fiberglass, or wood framing as applicable to your door frame construction.
