Ultra-low-profile rectangular EPDM sponge rubber seal for RV hatches, compartment doors, and shallow-channel frame openings where even the 1/4" profile is too tall. Closed-cell core with solid skin surface for superior weather and wear resistance over standard foam seals. Exclusive skirted 3M Peel-N-Stick adhesive protects the bond from debris and moisture. Ends can be bonded with Loctite Super Bonder 495 for a seamless one-piece perimeter gasket. Black, 20 ft. Hand crafted, made in USA.
The Steele Rubber Products 70-4307-272 is a 1/8" H x 5/8" W rectangular peel-and-stick EPDM sponge rubber seal — the thinnest and most compact rectangular profile in Steele Rubber's hatch seal lineup. At only 1/8" tall, this is the correct choice for hatch frames, compartment door channels, and any flat-frame opening where the sealing channel is extremely shallow and even the 1/4" profile would be too thick to fit or close properly. The 5/8" width still provides meaningful sealing surface coverage across the frame contact area despite the minimal height profile.
The seal is built around a closed-cell sponge rubber core surrounded by a solid skin surface — the same premium construction used across Steele Rubber's rectangular hatch seal family. This is a significant upgrade over standard open-cell foam gaskets: the closed-cell core resists moisture absorption and retains its shape through repeated compression cycles without taking a permanent set, while the solid skin surface provides abrasion and weather resistance that bare foam cannot match in outdoor RV applications. It will not fade, shrink, or crack under UV, ozone, or moisture exposure.
Steele Rubber describes this as an "improved and redesigned premium hatch and door seal" — the skirted Peel-N-Stick adhesive design shields the 3M tape edges from direct moisture and debris contact, preventing the edge-lifting adhesive failure common in non-skirted weatherstrips. The 20-foot pre-cut length makes it well-suited for full perimeter replacement on multiple hatches or longer compartment door runs. Ends can be bonded with Loctite Super Bonder 495 to create a seamless one-piece perimeter gasket with no gap at the join point.
At just 1/8" H — the thinnest rectangular hatch seal profile Steele Rubber offers — fits the shallowest hatch frame channels and compartment door openings where the 1/4" profile is too tall to close properly
Closed-cell core resists moisture absorption and compression set; solid skin surface adds abrasion and weather resistance — significantly outperforms standard open-cell foam in outdoor RV applications
Skirting shields adhesive tape edges from moisture, debris, and UV — prevents edge-lifting failure common with non-skirted strips; clean, finished look with no exposed tape after installation
Ends can be bonded with Loctite Super Bonder 495 for a seamless continuous perimeter gasket — eliminates the gap at the join point for complete hatch and door frame coverage
Apply between 60°F and 104°F (15°C–40°C) for best 3M adhesive bond strength. The temperature difference between the seal and the bonding surface should be as small as possible — avoid applying in direct sunlight on a very hot surface or in cold ambient conditions. Surface Preparation: Completely remove all old seal material, adhesive residue, dirt, wax, and moisture from the mounting surface. Wipe with isopropyl alcohol and allow to fully dry before applying. A completely clean, dry surface is critical for long-term adhesion — any contamination or moisture will significantly reduce bond strength.
Part Number: 70-4307-272 Choose This Profile (1/8" H x 5/8" W) When: • Your hatch or compartment door frame has an extremely shallow sealing channel — 1/8" or less of available sealing depth • The 1/4" x 1" profile (70-4306-272) would be too tall to allow the hatch or door to close properly • You need a longer continuous run — the 20 ft length covers more frame per strip than the 12 ft option Choose the 1/4" x 1" Profile (70-4306-272) When: • Your frame has up to 1/4" of available sealing depth and a wider 1" sealing surface • More compression deflection is needed for a consistent perimeter seal Available Options (This Profile): • 20 ft — Part 70-4307-272 (This Item) • Also available by the foot for custom lengths Note: Always measure the sealing channel depth on your hatch or door frame before ordering. Application temperature 60°F–104°F.
What You Need: No tools required for basic installation. Recommended supplies: isopropyl alcohol, clean cloth, tape measure, scissors or utility knife. Loctite Super Bonder 495 (sold separately) if creating a one-piece perimeter gasket. Basic Installation Steps: 1. Check Temperature: Confirm ambient and surface temp is between 60°F and 104°F — minimize temperature difference between seal and bonding surface 2. Remove Old Seal: Completely remove all old seal material and adhesive residue from the hatch or door frame channel 3. Clean & Dry: Wipe with isopropyl alcohol and allow to fully dry — do not apply to a damp or contaminated surface 4. Measure & Cut: Measure the frame perimeter and cut the seal to length with scissors or a utility knife 5. Peel & Press: Starting at one corner, remove backing a few inches at a time and press the seal firmly onto the frame surface — do not remove all backing at once 6. One-Piece Gasket (Optional): Apply Loctite Super Bonder 495 to the joining ends and bond together — allow to fully cure before closing the hatch or door 7. Test Closure: Close the hatch or door to confirm the ultra-low profile compresses evenly and seats fully in the frame channel without preventing closure

Two rectangular hatch seal profiles are available. Select the profile that matches the sealing channel depth on your hatch or door frame.
Both profiles are available by the foot in addition to their pre-cut lengths. Both share the same closed-cell EPDM sponge rubber construction with solid skin surface and exclusive skirted 3M Peel-N-Stick adhesive. Always measure the sealing channel depth on your specific hatch or door frame before ordering to select the correct profile height.
