Patented microcellular urethane rear helper springs for Class A motorhomes on Ford F53 chassis, 16,000–18,000 lb GVWR. Maxim 1-piece design attaches top and bottom. 3,000 lb capacity at 50% compression. Reduces rear sag, body roll, and sway. Maintenance-free. Coachmen, Holiday Rambler, Jayco, Tiffin, Winnebago. Set of 2.
The SuperSprings SSR-184-40-1 is the SumoSprings Maxim rear helper spring kit for Class A motorhomes built on the Ford F53 chassis with a GVWR of 16,000–18,000 lbs — the rear-axle companion to the SSF-170-40-2 front spring kit. Like the front springs, these are manufactured from proprietary closed micro-cellular urethane with a progressive spring rate that delivers soft engagement under light loads and increasing support as weight builds, eliminating the harsh contact of an overwhelmed factory bump stop.
The rear-specific Maxim 1-piece design attaches at both the top and bottom of the spring location via steel brackets — not just the bottom as some Solo-style springs do — allowing up to 50% expansion in body height while keeping the spring properly positioned throughout the suspension's travel range. The result is support and sway reduction without loss of ride quality when the motorhome is unloaded or traveling empty sections of highway. Compatible with Coachmen, Holiday Rambler, Jayco, Tiffin, and Winnebago motorhomes on 2006–2009 and 2011–present F53 chassis (year 2010 excluded).
• 2x SSR-184-40-1 SumoSprings (one per side) • Steel mounting brackets • Mounting hardware • Installation instructions Matching front spring kit (same GVWR range): • SSF-170-40-2 — Front SumoSprings, Ford F53, 16–22K GVWR
Most F53 motorhome owners install SumoSprings on both axles for a balanced upgrade: Front (SSF-170-40-2): Addresses nose-heaviness from engine, generator, and front equipment compartments. Improves steering stability and reduces front-end float. Rear (SSR-184-40-1 — this item): Addresses rear sag from passengers, cargo, full fresh water tanks, and tongue weight of towed vehicles. Reduces body roll and sway. Installing both front and rear provides the most balanced improvement to handling, stability, and ride quality.
The SSR-184-40-1 is for Coachmen, Holiday Rambler, Jayco, Tiffin, and Winnebago motorhomes on F53 chassis with 16,000–18,000 lb GVWR, 2006–2009 or 2011–present (year 2010 excluded). For Fleetwood, Forest River, Newmar, or Thor coaches at 16–18K GVWR: Order SSR-187-40-1 — different mounting brackets for those body manufacturers. F53 SumoSprings applications are specific to both the chassis year/GVWR and the RV body manufacturer. Always confirm all three variables before ordering.
