ValterraMade in USA1-Year WarrantyValterra P23508VP Blow-Out Plug with Schrader Valve -- Plastic

The fastest, cleanest way to blow out your RV water lines before winter. Thread this plug into your city water inlet, connect your air compressor, and push every last drop of water out of your fresh water plumbing system -- no antifreeze required for the blow-out step.

Clear Your Water Lines in Minutes

Winterizing your RV water system means getting all standing water out of the lines, pump, water heater bypass, and fixtures before freezing temperatures arrive. The Valterra P23508VP makes the compressed-air method simple: it threads directly into the standard city water inlet on your rig and accepts any air compressor line through its built-in Schrader (tire-style) valve stem.

The plug body is durable plastic with molded grip notches around the knob so you can tighten and loosen it by hand, even in cold weather. A screw-on plastic valve cap is included to keep the Schrader stem protected when the plug is stored between seasons.

Schrader Valve Stem

Standard tire-style valve accepts virtually any air compressor chuck -- no special adapter needed for most setups.

Hand-Grip Knob

Molded notches around the body give you secure grip for easy hand-tightening into the city water inlet fitting.

Protective Cap Included

Screw-on plastic cap seals the Schrader stem during off-season storage, keeping dirt and debris out of the valve.

Made in the USA

Domestic manufacture and a 1-year limited warranty back this small but essential winterization tool.

How to Use This Plug

Using the blow-out method is straightforward, but follow the steps in order to protect your pump and fixtures:

  • Turn off your water pump and disconnect the city water hose.
  • Thread the P23508VP into the city water inlet hand-tight -- do not over-tighten.
  • Set your air compressor to no more than 30 PSI for plastic lines (45 PSI max for copper or PEX).
  • Connect the compressor chuck to the Schrader valve and open each faucet, toilet, and shower one at a time until air -- not water -- exits.
  • Do not forget the water heater bypass, outdoor shower, and ice maker line if equipped.
  • Remove the plug, reinstall the city water inlet cap, and proceed with any antifreeze steps you prefer for P-traps and pump seals.
Blow-Out First, Antifreeze Second

Blowing out lines first removes the bulk of standing water, which means you use less RV antifreeze if you choose to follow up with a pink-antifreeze flush. Many full-timers and seasonal campers use the blow-out method alone for climates that do not drop below about 20 deg F for extended periods.

City Water Inlet Thread Standard

The P23508VP is designed for the standard 1/2-inch NPT (or equivalent GHT-to-NPT adapter) city water inlet found on the vast majority of Class A, Class B, Class C motorhomes, fifth wheels, travel trailers, and popup campers built in the last 30-plus years. If your inlet uses a different fitting, a common hose-thread adapter available at any hardware store will bridge the gap.

Pressure Limit -- Protect Your Plumbing

Do not exceed 30 PSI when blowing out PVC or plastic water lines. Higher pressures can stress fittings and blow out P-trap seals. Most RV fresh water systems are rated for no more than 45 PSI under normal city water supply; compressed air at lower regulated pressure is the safe approach.

Storage Tip

Store the P23508VP in your winterization kit bag with your water pump bypass key, antifreeze hand pump, and inlet cap. The screw-on Schrader cap keeps grit out of the valve between uses. Inspect the plastic threads before each season for any cracking.

Important Information
  • Do NOT exceed 30 PSI when blowing out plastic or PVC water lines -- over-pressure can crack fittings or dislodge P-trap seals.
  • Turn off and bypass your water pump before connecting compressed air -- back-feeding air through the pump can damage the pump diaphragm.
  • Open only one outlet at a time during the blow-out process to maintain enough pressure to clear each line fully.
  • This plug is for FRESH WATER system winterization only -- do not use on black or gray tank vent lines.
  • Inspect the plastic body and threads before each use. Replace if cracking or thread damage is visible.
  • Schrader valve cap is a small part -- keep away from children.
