The Camco 52117 is the Hydro Life HL-170 TF replacement filter cartridge for under-counter RV and marine water filtration systems. "TF" denotes threaded fittings — 1/2" male threaded ends that connect directly to the plumbing already installed as part of an HL-170 quick-connect kit (Camco 52103), with the threaded connection replacing the quick-connect feature.
The cartridge combines KDF media with fine-mesh granular activated carbon (GAC). KDF is an EPA-approved zinc/copper alloy media that creates an electro-chemical reaction reducing bacteria growth, heavy metals, and chlorine — addressing contaminants that standard carbon-only filters can't. The GAC component handles taste and odor. Camco's tightly-packed media design forces water through more filtration material for better water-to-media contact than loosely-packed competitors, and the combination is rated to last up to 4 times longer than typical carbon-only filters. Replacement requires no tools — simply unthread the old cartridge and thread in the new one.

The HL-170 series filter is available with two different fitting types, and they are not interchangeable: • TF (Threaded Fittings — 52117, this item): 1/2" male threaded ends. Used when the installed plumbing has threaded connections. • QC (Quick Connect — 52101): Push-to-connect fittings. Used when the installed plumbing has quick-connect fittings. Check the fittings on your existing filter housing before ordering — threading a TF cartridge into quick-connect plumbing (or vice versa) won't work without additional adapters.
This filter cartridge must be protected from freezing temperatures. If winterizing your RV, do not run RV antifreeze through this filter — the antifreeze can damage the filter media. Remove the cartridge before winterizing, or bypass the filter housing during the antifreeze process.
