Coleman Mach 13,500 BTU Low-Profile Rooftop Coleman Mach 47203-076 Mach 8 Plus Rooftop Air Conditioner -- Arctic White

The Mach 8 Plus is Coleman Mach's flagship low-profile rooftop AC unit, purpose-built for RV travel. Its streamlined shroud cuts wind drag on the road while its dual-motor design delivers the full 13,500 BTU of cooling on both high and low fan speeds -- something single-motor units cannot match. If you are replacing an aging Coleman Mach unit or upgrading from a standard-profile AC, the 47203-076 drops directly into the industry-standard 14-inch x 14-inch roof opening.

Full Cooling Power at Every Fan Speed

Most budget rooftop ACs use a single motor that reduces cooling output when you drop to low fan speed. The Mach 8 Plus uses two separate motors -- one for the evaporator blower, one for the condenser fan -- so refrigerant circulation and heat rejection are not compromised when you run quietly on low. You get the same 13,500 BTU regardless of which speed you select.

The low-profile shroud is a genuine advantage for Class A and Class C motorhome owners who clear low bridges, tree branches, or garage doors. The reduced height also cuts aerodynamic drag at highway speeds, contributing to modest fuel savings on long trips.

Dual-Motor Design

Separate evaporator and condenser motors maintain full 13,500 BTU output on both high and low fan speeds.

Low-Profile Shroud

Aerodynamic Arctic White shroud reduces roof height and highway drag compared to standard-profile units.

Standard Roof Fit

Designed for the industry-standard 14 in x 14 in RV roof opening -- replaces most existing Coleman Mach units.

Arctic White Finish

UV-resistant Arctic White shroud matches the majority of factory RV roof accessories and resists yellowing.

What Makes the Mach 8 Plus Different

Coleman Mach has produced RV rooftop air conditioners since the 1970s, and the Mach 8 platform is their most refined iteration. Key engineering decisions that matter to RV owners:

  • Dual motors: The evaporator blower and condenser fan run independently, so slowing the blower for quiet operation does not starve the condenser of airflow.
  • Corrosion-resistant coil coatings: Coils are treated to resist salt-air corrosion, relevant for coastal camping and full-time coastal residents.
  • Pre-charged refrigerant system: The sealed refrigerant circuit arrives factory-charged and does not require field refrigerant work during installation.
  • Compatibility with Coleman Mach control systems: Works with the full range of Coleman Mach wall thermostats and digital control kits sold separately.

Drop-In Replacement for Existing Coleman Mach Units

The 47203-076 uses the standard 14 in x 14 in roof cutout shared by Coleman Mach, Dometic, and most other rooftop AC brands. If your current unit sits in that opening, the Mach 8 Plus installs without cutting or re-framing. The ceiling assembly (air distribution box / return air grille) is sold separately -- confirm compatibility with your existing interior kit before ordering.

Installation Overview

The Mach 8 Plus mounts to the roof from above. The gasket seal between the unit and the roof deck is critical -- use the foam gasket supplied with the unit and torque the four mounting bolts evenly to prevent leaks. The unit requires a 120V AC shore power or generator connection rated for the startup amperage draw.

  • Remove existing AC unit and inspect roof opening for rot, delamination, or old gasket residue before installing.
  • Route power through the ceiling assembly -- the rooftop portion of the unit connects to the interior air handler via wiring harness.
  • A dedicated 15-amp or 20-amp 120V circuit is standard for 13,500 BTU units.
  • Ceiling assembly / air distribution box and thermostat are NOT included -- order separately if replacing only the rooftop component.

Thermostat and Control Compatibility

The Mach 8 Plus is compatible with Coleman Mach analog and digital wall thermostats, including the popular Mach 8 controller kit. If you are upgrading from an older Coleman Mach unit and keeping your existing wall thermostat, verify the control wiring matches the 47203-076 harness pinout. Coleman Mach's 5-wire thermostat standard is widely compatible across the Mach product line.

Ceiling Assembly Sold Separately

This listing is for the rooftop condensing unit only. The interior ceiling assembly (air distribution box, return grille, and blower housing that mounts inside the RV) is a separate purchase. If you are replacing a complete system, confirm whether your existing ceiling assembly is reusable or needs replacement.

Seasonal Maintenance Tips

  • Clean or replace the interior air filter at the start of each cooling season and monthly during heavy use.
  • Inspect the roof gasket annually for compression set or cracking -- a failed gasket is the most common cause of ceiling water damage under an AC unit.
  • Clear debris from the condenser coil fins each season; bent fins can be carefully straightened with a fin comb.
  • Cover the unit with a breathable RV AC cover during winter storage to protect the shroud and coils from UV and debris.

Important Information

  • This is the rooftop unit only -- the interior ceiling assembly and wall thermostat must be purchased separately if not reusing existing components.
  • Installation requires working at roof height. Use appropriate fall protection and confirm the roof can support the unit weight before climbing.
  • The unit contains a sealed R-410A refrigerant circuit. Do not attempt to open, tap, or recharge the refrigerant system -- R-410A service requires EPA Section 608 certification.
  • Starting amperage (LRA) can trip lightweight inverter-generators. A soft-start capacitor kit is strongly recommended when running on a generator under 3,000 watts.
  • Inspect the roof substrate around the 14 x 14 in opening for delamination or rot before installation. A compromised roof deck will not support the unit properly and will allow water intrusion.
  • Do not operate the air conditioner below approximately 55 deg F ambient -- compressor damage can result from low-ambient operation.
  • Always verify your RV's electrical system (shore power cord, transfer switch, and breaker panel) is rated to handle the unit's startup current before powering on.
