Dometic 13,500 BTU FreshJet 3 Dometic FJX3473MWHAS FreshJet 3 Rooftop RV Air Conditioner -- 13,500 BTU, Polar White, Cool Only

The FreshJet 3 is Dometic's next-generation rooftop air conditioner engineered specifically for RV use. It delivers 13% more cooling capacity, 15% more airflow, and 50% less perceived noise compared to earlier Dometic rooftop units. Designed as a direct plug-and-play replacement for the Dometic Brisk II, it mounts to any standard 14 in x 14 in roof opening and supports both ducted and non-ducted installations -- no adapter required.

More Cooling. Less Noise. Same Footprint.

The FreshJet 3 series represents a full ground-up redesign of Dometic's most popular rooftop A/C platform. The aerodynamically optimized fan blade and scroll housing pull more air through the evaporator coil than the previous-generation Brisk II, which means faster cool-down times and better temperature uniformity from front to back of the coach -- without raising the noise floor.

At 13,500 BTU, the FJX3473MWHAS is sized for mid-length trailers, fifth wheels, and Class C motorhomes typically in the 23 ft to 35 ft range. It operates on standard 120V shore power or a generator, and is compatible with Dometic's Single Zone CT thermostat and compatible control kits for thermostat-controlled operation.

13% More Cooling

Redesigned evaporator and airflow path extract more BTUs per amp-hour versus the Brisk II platform.

50% Less Perceived Noise

Scroll-optimized fan housing and vibration-isolated compressor mount reduce cabin sound significantly.

Ducted or Non-Ducted

Ships ready for non-ducted use. Accepts Dometic ducted distribution kits for duct-system installations.

Direct Brisk II Replacement

Mounts to the same 14 x 14 in roof cutout and uses the same wiring harness -- no new penetrations needed.

Ducted vs. Non-Ducted Operation

The FJX3473MWHAS ships in non-ducted configuration, meaning cooled air is delivered directly through the ceiling assembly's return/discharge grille. For coaches with an existing duct system, the unit accepts compatible Dometic ducted ceiling assemblies and distribution kits, allowing airflow to be routed through existing ductwork to multiple registers.

If you are replacing a Brisk II in a ducted coach, confirm that your existing ceiling assembly is compatible with the FreshJet 3 mounting interface before ordering the ceiling assembly separately. The rooftop unit itself mounts identically to the Brisk II in both cases.

Direct Brisk II Drop-In Replacement

The FreshJet 3 uses the same 14 in x 14 in roof opening, the same gasket footprint, and the same 120V/15A wiring connection as the Dometic Brisk II (model families 540, 550, 551, 579, 640). No roof cutting, no new wiring runs. Bolt it down, reconnect the power lead, and reinstall the interior ceiling assembly.

Fan Speeds and Comfort Control

The FreshJet 3 operates in multiple fan speeds (high, medium, low) in cooling mode. When paired with a compatible Dometic Single Zone CT thermostat (sold separately), the unit supports automatic thermostat-controlled compressor cycling and fan-only mode for ventilation when ambient temperatures allow.

The ceiling assembly included with this unit provides the interior air distribution and the wall-switch or thermostat interface. Fan-only mode is useful during shoulder-season camping when you want air circulation without running the compressor.

What Is and Is Not Included

  • Included: FreshJet 3 rooftop condensing unit (FJX3473MWHAS), mounting gasket/seal, mounting hardware (bolts and rails), non-ducted ceiling assembly, and wiring harness.
  • Not included: Thermostat (compatible Dometic Single Zone CT thermostat sold separately), ducted ceiling assembly (sold separately if upgrading a duct system), sealant/lap sealant for roof installation (required for weatherproofing).

Installation Note -- Roof Sealant Required

As with all rooftop RV A/C units, the mounting gasket is a compression seal only. You must apply compatible RV lap sealant (such as Dicor self-leveling lap sealant) around the perimeter of the base after torquing the mounting hardware. Failure to seal the roof perimeter can result in water intrusion and voided warranties. Torque mounting bolts to manufacturer specification -- overtightening can crack the roof decking or compress the gasket unevenly.

Maintenance Tips

  • Clean the evaporator and condenser coils with coil cleaner spray at the start of each season to maintain rated BTU output.
  • Inspect and replace the ceiling assembly filter every 30 days during heavy use -- a clogged filter reduces airflow and makes the compressor work harder.
  • Check roof sealant annually and reseal any cracks before the rainy season.
  • Verify all mounting bolts remain tight after the first 500 miles of travel; vibration can loosen hardware.
  • If the unit sits unused over winter, cover the exterior shroud to prevent debris buildup in the condenser fan housing.

Commonly Paired Accessories

  • Dometic Single Zone CT Thermostat -- enables automatic temperature control and compressor cycling.
  • Dometic ducted ceiling assembly kit -- required for duct-system distribution (sold separately).
  • Dicor self-leveling lap sealant -- for roof perimeter weatherproofing during installation.
  • Dometic FreshJet 3 replacement filter -- for ceiling assembly maintenance.

Important Information -- Read Before Installing

  • This unit is cool only -- it does not include a heat pump. Supplemental heat requires a separate furnace or heat strip (if available for your ceiling assembly).
  • A standard 15A dedicated circuit is required. Do not share the circuit with other high-draw appliances during operation.
  • If running on a generator, confirm the generator's running wattage can support compressor startup load. A soft-start module is strongly recommended for generators under 3,000W or inverter-based systems.
  • Roof lap sealant must be applied around the base perimeter after installation. Water intrusion from an unsealed roof can cause structural damage and is not covered under warranty.
  • Do not overtighten mounting bolts -- follow torque specifications to avoid cracking the roof decking or deforming the gasket.
  • Confirm your existing ceiling assembly is compatible with the FreshJet 3 before ordering a ducted upgrade kit separately.
  • This product ships as a rooftop unit with a non-ducted ceiling assembly. Thermostat is not included.
