The Curt ActiveLink 18401 shank transforms your 1-1/4" hitch receiver into a quick-swap accessory platform. Drop in a bike rack or cargo carrier, and the built-in pivot point lines up the pin holes automatically -- no wrestling, no fumbling. Swap accessories in seconds and tilt the whole assembly out of the way when you need clear access to your cargo area.
The ActiveLink system is built around one practical idea: you should be able to change hitch accessories quickly without fighting alignment or rattling down the highway. The 18401 shank delivers that with a patent-pending bottom pivot bolt that serves as a built-in resting ledge. Hang the accessory on that bolt, and the hitch pin holes line up on their own -- insert the pin, clip it, done.
Anti-rattle hardware is standard on the 18401, not an add-on. A knurled anti-rattle handwheel tightens the shank firmly into the receiver tube, and a plastic interior lining between the shank and receiver dampens vibration and prevents metal-on-metal contact that causes the clunking most towing setups produce.
Acts as a built-in ledge that supports the accessory during installation and automatically aligns hitch pin holes -- no need to hold the accessory and fidget with the pin at the same time.
The entire shank and attached accessory tilt away from the vehicle without full removal, giving you access to the cargo area, tailgate, or trunk without detaching anything.
Includes an anti-rattle hitch pin and anti-rattle handwheel that tension the shank against the receiver walls. Combined with the plastic interior lining, road vibration and hitch clunk are significantly reduced.
Dual-stage finish -- E-coat base layer plus carbide black powder coat -- protects carbon steel construction against rust, chips, and UV exposure for long-term outdoor use.
The 18401 shank is designed specifically to work with Curt's ActiveLink accessory lineup, including ActiveLink bike racks and ActiveLink cargo carriers. The quick-connect interface is proprietary to the ActiveLink system -- it is not a universal coupler for non-ActiveLink accessories.
With a loaded bike rack or cargo carrier mounted, accessing your vehicle's rear cargo area is a constant frustration -- unless your shank tilts. The ActiveLink 18401 lets you tip the accessory down and out of the way without removing it from the receiver. For RV owners towing with a tow vehicle, or truck/SUV drivers who load cargo frequently, this saves real time on every trip.
The 18401 is built from carbon steel and finished with a two-stage corrosion protection system: an E-coat primer is applied first for rust resistance at the base metal level, then a carbide black powder coat is applied over the top for impact and UV resistance. The plastic interior lining inside the receiver-insert portion of the shank protects both the shank and the receiver from scratching and reduces metal-to-metal vibration transfer.
The shank weighs 7 lbs. on its own. Installation is tool-minimal -- the anti-rattle handwheel tightens by hand, and the hitch pin uses a clip retainer. No drilling, welding, or wiring is required. The shank inserts into any standard 1-1/4" receiver tube.
