Laser-based towing setup tool that helps calculate weight distribution percentage for a safer, more balanced tow. The OnTarget Towing Tool measures front wheel well height during setup, calculates weight distribution percentage, and also works as a laser distance measurer and digital level for campsite setup.
The Equal-i-zer 95-01-4323 OnTarget Towing Tool is designed to make weight distribution hitch setup easier and more accurate. Instead of relying on tape-measure notes and manual calculations, the tool uses laser measurements to help determine how much trailer tongue weight is being transferred back to the tow vehicle’s front axle.
During setup, the OnTarget tool measures and records front wheel well height with the trailer unloaded, with the trailer coupled but weight distribution not engaged, and with the weight distribution system activated. It then calculates the weight distribution percentage so the hitch can be adjusted for better handling, braking, and towing stability.
Automatically calculates weight distribution percentage during hitch setup
Uses laser measurements instead of a standard tape measure for setup checks
Can be used to help level a trailer or check setup at the campsite
Useful for checking campsite depth, awning clearance, slide-out space, and trailer level
The OnTarget Towing Tool helps measure and calculate weight distribution percentage, but the hitch still needs to be adjusted according to the weight distribution hitch manufacturer’s setup instructions. Always confirm trailer tongue weight, tow vehicle ratings, hitch rating, spring bar rating, and final hitch setup before towing.
Proper weight distribution helps return weight to the tow vehicle’s front axle, improving steering, braking, and overall control. Step 1: Measure front wheel well height with the tow vehicle unloaded. Step 2: Measure again with the trailer coupled and weight distribution not engaged. Step 3: Measure a third time with the weight distribution system engaged. Step 4: The tool calculates the weight distribution percentage so the setup can be adjusted as needed. This makes it useful for initial hitch setup, seasonal setup checks, cargo-load changes, water tank changes, or confirming that a previously installed hitch is still dialed in correctly.
Weight Distribution Setup: Helps confirm whether a weight distribution hitch is properly transferring weight back to the tow vehicle’s front axle. Post-Load Check: Useful after cargo, water tank levels, passengers, or trailer loading changes. Campsite Setup: Measures distance for campsite depth, awning clearance, slide-out space, and other setup checks. Trailer Leveling: Digital level function helps check trailer level once parked.
