A clean, purpose-built access door for RV water heater compartments. The Girard 2GWHD kit is sized for standard 6-gallon Suburban water heater cut-outs and installs as either a new-build component or a direct replacement, delivering a finished polar white exterior with secure latching hardware included.
The Girard 2GWHD water heater door installation kit is engineered to fit the standard exterior cut-out dimensions used with 6-gallon Suburban water heaters found across a wide range of production RVs. Whether you are building a new rig, completing a conversion, or replacing a cracked or damaged door panel, this kit provides everything needed to create a clean, weather-resistant access point.
Girard, now part of the Lippert family of brands, has long been the OEM door supplier for many Suburban water heater applications. The 2GWHD designation indicates this is the hinged-door configuration -- as opposed to a simple panel -- which means the door swings open on integrated hinges rather than requiring full removal for access to the anode rod, gas valve, or electrical connections.
Integrated hinge keeps the door attached while open, so no dropped panels when servicing in the field.
Built-in sliding latch secures the door during travel and releases easily for routine maintenance stops.
Color-matched to standard RV sidewall white for a factory-installed appearance on most production coaches.
Sold as a complete kit with door, frame, and required hardware -- not just a bare door panel.
This is a full installation kit, not a door-only replacement. The kit includes:
No separate door purchase or additional frame kit is required for a standard installation into a 6-gallon Suburban cut-out opening.
This kit is sized for the standard 6-gallon Suburban water heater exterior cut-out, which uses a nominal 15 x 15 inch opening. Verify your existing rough-cut opening dimensions before ordering. If your coach has a 10-gallon or 12-gallon Suburban heater, the cut-out size differs and this kit will not fit without modification.
The 2GWHD kit is designed for straightforward installation by a competent DIYer or RV technician. The frame trim ring sits over the exterior skin around the rough cut-out opening and is secured with the included fasteners. The hinged door assembly attaches to the frame. No special tools are required beyond a standard drill and screwdriver.
This kit works equally well as a replacement for a worn or damaged Girard door and as a new installation in a coach being built or renovated. Because this is an OEM-style Girard/Lippert part, it is the correct choice when the original door was also a Girard unit -- hardware alignment and frame geometry match directly.
A proper lap or self-leveling sealant must be applied around the door frame during installation to prevent moisture intrusion into the wall cavity. This sealant is not included in the kit and must be purchased separately. Failure to seal correctly can result in water damage to the surrounding wall structure.
After installation, inspect the door frame sealant annually and before each season. Polar white ABS and similar plastics can become brittle with UV exposure over time. Check the latch and hinge pivot points each spring and apply a small amount of silicone lubricant to keep operation smooth and prevent cracking from forced operation.
