Lippert 9/16" ID x 1-3/4" Long Genuine Replacement Part Lippert 126171 Bronze Leaf Spring Bushing

A direct-fit replacement bronze bushing for trailer leaf spring eyes, equalizers, and axle hanger attaching hardware. Sized for 9/16" wet bolt applications on 1-3/4"-wide spring suspension systems. Sold as a single bushing.

Keep Your Trailer Suspension Running Smooth

The Lippert 126171 is a genuine OEM-spec bronze leaf spring bushing designed to replace worn or damaged bushings in compatible trailer and RV suspension systems. Bronze bushings at the spring eye and equalizer pivot points take the brunt of road stress, vibration, and load cycling. When they wear out, you get slop in the suspension, uneven tire wear, and metal-on-metal contact that accelerates damage to hangers and axle brackets.

This bushing is precision-sized at 9/16" inside diameter to accept standard 9/16" wet bolts (greaseable carriage bolts) and measures 1-3/4" in length to match the spring width on compatible Lippert and aftermarket axle/hanger setups. Bronze construction provides natural lubricity, corrosion resistance, and long service life compared to nylon or plastic substitutes.

Bronze Construction

Self-lubricating bronze alloy resists corrosion and wear far longer than nylon or plastic bushings under road load and weather exposure.

Precision Sizing

9/16" ID matches standard wet bolt diameter. 1-3/4" length fits spring width precisely to prevent side-load slop.

Multi-Position Fit

Suitable for leaf spring eye, equalizer pivot, and axle hanger attachment points on compatible trailer suspension setups.

Genuine Lippert Part

OEM part number 126171 (vendor ref 71-3836). Correct spec from the source -- no guessing on fit or material grade.

Where This Bushing Is Used

In a tandem or triple-axle trailer suspension, bronze bushings are installed at three key points:

  • Spring eye (front and rear): The rolled eye at each end of the leaf spring pack pivots on a wet bolt through the spring hanger. The bushing lines the inside of that eye.
  • Equalizer pivot: The center equalizer bar rocks on a wet bolt between two spring packs. This pivot sees the most motion and typically wears first.
  • Axle hanger bracket: Some hanger designs also use a bushed bolt at the lower attach point.

All three positions use the same bushing dimension on many Lippert-equipped trailers, which simplifies your parts order -- measure your existing bushings before ordering to confirm the 9/16" x 1-3/4" size is correct for your specific rig.

Why Bronze Over Nylon?

Bronze bushings tolerate higher loads, handle heat from road friction better, and last longer under the grit and moisture that trailer suspension sees. They also work correctly with grease -- nylon bushings can swell or soften when lubricated with certain grease types. If your original equipment used bronze, replace with bronze.

Installation Notes

Bushing replacement is a straightforward job for someone comfortable with trailer suspension work, but does require safely supporting the trailer frame and removing spring load from the axle before pulling wet bolts.

  • Support trailer frame on jack stands before removing any suspension hardware.
  • Worn bushings often need to be driven or pressed out -- a bushing driver set or a bench press is helpful.
  • Clean hanger and equalizer bores before pressing in new bushings.
  • Reinstall with fresh grease on wet bolts if your system uses greaseable hardware.
  • Torque wet bolt nuts to spec and re-check after the first 50-100 miles of loaded travel.

Wet Bolt Compatibility

This bushing is sized for 9/16" wet bolts (greaseable carriage bolts with a zerk fitting). If your suspension uses a different bolt diameter -- 1/2" is common on lighter trailers -- you need the corresponding bushing ID. Measure your bolt shank before ordering.

Maintenance Tip

Inspect suspension bushings at every tire rotation or at least once per season. A bushing worn to the point of metal-on-metal contact will damage the hanger bracket bore -- a far more expensive repair. Early replacement is cheap insurance.

Important Information

  • Confirm your wet bolt is 9/16" diameter and your spring is 1-3/4" wide before ordering. A mismatched bushing will not seat correctly and may cause suspension failure.
  • Never work under a trailer supported only by a floor jack. Use rated jack stands under the frame before removing suspension fasteners.
  • This is a single bushing. Order the quantity you need based on the number of positions being replaced (a typical tandem-axle trailer uses 6 to 8 bushings).
  • Wet bolts and nuts are not included. Inspect and replace wet bolts if worn, bent, or corroded at the same time as bushing replacement.
  • Bronze bushings should be lightly greased on installation and serviced regularly with the grease zerk on the wet bolt.
