Trailer axle bearings take a beating -- heat cycling, road grime, water crossings, and thousands of miles of vibration all break down grease and wear bearing surfaces. Catching worn bearings early prevents hub failure on the highway. This Lippert kit gives you every serviceable component for one hub so the job is done right the first time.
The kit covers two common spindle diameters found on Lippert axles: the 1-1/16" shaft used on 2,000 to 3,500 lb hubs (L44649 outer cone/L44610 race) and the 1-3/8" shaft used on 3,500 to 4,400 lb inner positions (L68149 cone/L68111 race). Verify your spindle diameter before ordering if you are unsure which bearing series your axle uses.
Uses L44649 and L68149 tapered roller cones with matching L44610 and L68111 races -- widely available cross-reference numbers if you ever need individual replacements.

This kit services a single axle hub. If you are repacking both hubs on one axle end (or doing a full axle repack), order two kits. For a tandem axle trailer, order four kits total.
Lippert recommends inspecting trailer axle bearings at least once per season or every 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. Replace bearings if you notice any of the following:
Wheel bearing grease is not included with this kit. Use an NLGI Grade 2 lithium-complex or synthetic bearing grease rated for trailer hub applications. Pack both inner and outer cones fully before installation and apply a light coat inside the hub bore.
This kit is designed for straightforward hub-off service. Standard procedure includes removing the hub, cleaning all mating surfaces, driving in new races with a race driver or appropriate socket, pressing in the grease seal, packing the bearing cones, reassembling with the tang washer and a new cotter pin, and torquing the spindle nut to the axle manufacturer's specification before installing the hub cap.
Always replace the grease seal any time bearings are serviced -- even if the old seal looks intact. Reusing a seal that has been unseated risks early grease loss and bearing failure. This kit includes a fresh seal so there is no reason to reuse the old one.
