Lippert 2,200 Lb Axle Rating Bearing Kit Included Lippert 814206 Idler Hub with Bearing Cone Kit -- 4 on 4-Inch Bolt Pattern

A direct-replacement idler hub for light trailer axles up to 2,200 lbs, packaged with every bearing component you need to complete the job in one box. Built from solid iron for long-term durability on RV trailers, utility trailers, and boat trailers running 8- to 12-inch wheels on a 4 on 4-inch bolt circle.

Everything You Need for a Clean Hub Replacement

Worn or damaged idler hubs are a common roadside failure on older RV trailers and small utility trailers. The Lippert 814206 lets you swap the entire hub assembly -- hub body, bearings, seal, and cotter pin -- without hunting down individual components separately. All mating surfaces are machined to accept the included bearing cups and cones, so fitment is guaranteed within the kit.

The solid iron hub body handles the daily stress of towing without the flex or cracking risk of lighter alloys at this axle weight class. Half-inch wheel studs match the stud size standard used across most light trailer axles in this bolt pattern family.

Solid Iron Construction

Cast solid iron hub body resists deformation and provides long service life under repeated load cycles on paved and unpaved roads.

Complete Bearing Kit

Includes inner and outer bearing cones, inner and outer bearing cups, a double-lip grease seal, and a cotter pin -- no separate parts run required.

4 on 4-Inch Bolt Pattern

Four-lug, 4-inch bolt circle matches the most common wheel bolt pattern used on light RV and utility trailer axles rated at 2,200 lbs.

Wide Wheel Compatibility

Accepts wheels from 8 to 12 inches in diameter, covering the full range of tire sizes typically paired with 2,200 lb trailer axles.

What Is an Idler Hub?

An idler hub (also called a free-spinning hub) rotates freely on the spindle using greased tapered roller bearings rather than being driven by a differential. On non-braking trailer axles, the idler hub carries the wheel load and transfers it to the spindle. Regular bearing inspection, repacking, and seal replacement are essential maintenance items -- this kit supports a complete service or full replacement in one purchase.

Complete Kit Advantage: Buying the hub and bearing kit together ensures the bearing cups are properly matched to the cones and that race geometry is consistent -- mixing components from different suppliers can cause premature wear or noise.

Bearing Kit Contents

The 814206 kit includes all consumable components for a full hub installation:

  • 1 x inner bearing cone
  • 1 x inner bearing cup
  • 1 x outer bearing cone
  • 1 x outer bearing cup
  • 1 x double-lip grease seal (inner)
  • 1 x cotter pin

Grease is not included. Use a high-quality NLGI #2 wheel bearing grease rated for trailer/automotive service. Pack both cones thoroughly before assembly.

Note on Brake Drums: This is an idler (non-braked) hub. It does not include or accept a brake drum. If your axle uses electric brakes or surge brakes, you need a hub-drum assembly, not this part. Verify your axle type before ordering.

Fitment and Compatibility

The 814206 is designed for Lippert-supplied trailer axles rated at 2,200 lbs with the 4 on 4-inch bolt pattern. It is also compatible with many non-Lippert axles that share the same spindle dimensions, bearing sizes, and bolt circle. Common applications include:

  • Light RV trailers and pop-up campers on single-axle 2,200 lb setups
  • Utility, landscape, and equipment trailers with matching spindle specs
  • Boat trailers using the same axle class and bolt pattern
  • Golf cart and small ATV trailers sharing this hub standard
Maintenance Tip: Inspect wheel bearings at least once per season or every 10,000 miles of towing. Look for pitting, discoloration (bluing), or roughness when spinning the cone by hand. Replace grease seals any time the hub is removed -- they are single-use components.
Related Items to Consider: Dust cap or grease cap (not included), lug nuts compatible with 1/2-inch studs, hub puller tool for stubborn spindle removal, and spindle nut and washer if original hardware is damaged.

Important Information
  • This is an idler hub only -- it does not include a brake drum and will not work as a direct replacement on braked axle positions. Confirm your axle position is non-braked before purchasing.
  • Maximum axle weight rating is 2,200 lbs. Do not use on axles with higher load ratings.
  • Wheel bearing grease is NOT included. Both inner and outer bearing cones must be fully packed with NLGI #2 grease before installation. Running dry even briefly will destroy the bearings.
  • The grease seal is a one-time-use component. Never reinstall a removed seal -- replace it every time the hub is pulled from the spindle.
  • Torque the spindle nut to the specification appropriate for this bearing class, then back off to achieve zero preload (finger-tight plus cotter pin alignment). Over-torquing causes rapid bearing failure.
  • This listing is for one (1) hub assembly. Most axles require two hubs -- one per side. Order accordingly.
  • Verify your existing bolt pattern before installation. The 4 on 4-inch circle is not interchangeable with 4 on 4.5-inch or 5-lug patterns.
