Lippert OEM In-Wall / Schwintek Fits IG-42 Motors Lippert 238461 -- Torque Shaft Coupling for In-Wall Slide-Out Motors

The exact OEM coupling that connects your IG-42 motor output shaft to the torque shaft in the In-Wall (Schwintek) slide-out channel. Fits both the 229466 old-style and 236575 new-style IG-42 motors. Also used in select Lippert TV Lift Assemblies. No assembly required.

The Critical Link in Your Schwintek Slide-Out Drive System

The Lippert 238461 torque shaft coupling is a small part that does a big job. It sits between the IG-42 motor's output shaft and the torque shaft that runs the length of the In-Wall slide-out wall channel. Every time your slide-out extends or retracts, this coupling transmits the full rotational load from the motor to the drive system. When it cracks, strips, or wears out, the motor spins but the slide-out doesn't move -- or moves unevenly.

This is a genuine Lippert OEM replacement, not an aftermarket approximation. The hex cutout is precision-machined to engage the torque shaft without slop, which matters on a system that cycles hundreds of times per season. If you are troubleshooting a slide-out that hums but does not extend, or one side that moves and the other does not, a failed coupling is one of the most common root causes.

OEM Hex Cutout

Precision hex bore engages the IG-42 torque shaft without play, maintaining consistent drive engagement across full slide travel.

Dual Motor Compatibility

Fits both the 229466 (original style) and 236575 (updated style) IG-42 In-Wall slide-out motors with no modification.

TV Lift Crossover

Also used in select Lippert TV Lift Assemblies, making it a useful spare for rigs with both systems installed.

Ready to Install

Arrives fully assembled. No machining, no sub-assembly, no special tools beyond basic hand tools needed for motor removal.

How the In-Wall (Schwintek) Drive System Works

The Lippert In-Wall slide-out system -- commonly called Schwintek after its original designer -- uses one or two IG-42 motors mounted inside the slide-out wall cavity. Each motor drives a torque shaft that engages a rack gear running along the top and bottom of the slide-out opening. The 238461 coupling is the mechanical interface between the motor's keyed output shaft and the torque shaft. It must transfer torque cleanly in both directions: extension and retraction.

Because the coupling is made of an engineered polymer rather than metal, it is intentionally the weakest link in the drivetrain -- it is designed to fail before the motor gears or the torque shaft strip under overload. This is actually protective design. If your slide-out hit an obstruction and the system was not stopped in time, a broken coupling saves far more expensive components downstream.

Genuine OEM Part -- Exact Fit Guaranteed

Part number 238461 is the current Lippert OEM coupling for the In-Wall system. Because this is the actual factory part, no fitment guesswork is required if you confirm you have an IG-42 motor (229466 or 236575). The coupling drops in without modification.

Diagnosing a Failed Coupling

Before ordering, confirm the coupling is the failed component. Common symptoms include:

  • Motor runs (you hear it) but slide-out does not move on one or both sides
  • Slide-out moves on one side only -- the side with the failed coupling does not engage
  • Clicking or ratcheting noise from inside the wall cavity when motor operates
  • Slide-out becomes increasingly uneven (one rail advancing, one lagging) over time

To inspect the coupling, the IG-42 motor typically must be removed from the wall cavity. Once the motor is out, the coupling is visible on the output shaft end. Check for visible cracking, a stripped hex bore, or a coupling that spins freely on the shaft instead of driving it.

Also Check the Torque Shaft and Rack Gear

While you have the motor out, inspect the torque shaft end for wear or burring where the coupling seats. A damaged torque shaft will destroy a new coupling quickly. Replace both if the shaft shows visible damage at the drive interface.

Installation Overview

Installation of the 238461 is straightforward once the motor is accessed:

  • Retract the slide-out fully before beginning any work
  • Disconnect the motor wiring harness at the connector inside the wall cavity
  • Remove the motor mounting screws (typically four) and withdraw the motor from the channel
  • Slide the old coupling off the motor output shaft and the torque shaft end
  • Install the new 238461 coupling onto the torque shaft, then seat the motor output shaft into the coupling hex bore
  • Reinstall motor mounting screws and reconnect wiring harness
  • Test extend and retract operation before closing up the wall access

Check Both Sides if Running Dual Motors

In-Wall systems with two IG-42 motors (one per wall) have a coupling at each motor. If one coupling failed due to an overload event or impact, inspect the other coupling as well. Replacing only the visible failure without checking its counterpart can result in a second failure shortly after.

Maintenance Tip -- Periodic Inspection

During annual slide-out service, visually inspect the coupling for hairline cracks at the hex bore edges. Early-stage cracking can cause intermittent operation that is easy to misdiagnose as a motor or control board fault. Catching a cracking coupling early prevents an inconvenient roadside failure.

Important Information

  • Confirm your slide-out uses the IG-42 motor (part 229466 or 236575) before ordering -- this coupling is not compatible with other Lippert slide-out systems such as the hydraulic, electric cable, or HappiJac systems.
  • Always fully retract the slide-out before removing the motor or coupling. Working on an extended slide-out under load is a safety hazard.
  • Disconnect shore power and battery before working inside the wall cavity to prevent accidental motor activation.
  • Inspect the torque shaft for damage at the coupling interface. A burred or worn shaft will destroy a new coupling prematurely.
  • This part covers one motor position. Dual-motor In-Wall systems require one coupling per motor -- order two if replacing both sides.
  • Do not force the slide-out manually if the coupling has failed. Forcing the system can damage the rack gear or torque shaft.
