The industry-standard connection between a dual LP cylinder setup and a two-stage regulator. Engineered to deliver a higher rate of flow that reduces the chance of your regulator entering bypass mode and cutting off gas to your appliances.
When a regulator goes into bypass mode, your stove flames drop, your furnace struggles, and your water heater may fail to ignite. The most common cause is inadequate flow from the supply hose. The MB Sturgis Type 1 pigtail is built with a 1/4-inch ID thermoplastic hose rated to 200,000 SCFH -- well above what most RV dual-cylinder setups will ever demand -- keeping your regulator operating normally across all conditions.
The dark green Type 1 connection is the standard used by OEM RV manufacturers across the industry. It threads directly onto standard 1-pound and larger ACME-threaded LP cylinders. The built-in internal backcheck prevents gas backflow when the hose is disconnected, a critical safety feature when swapping cylinders roadside or at a campsite.
Blocks backflow at the tank connection the moment the hose is disconnected -- no residual gas leak when swapping cylinders.
Rated to 200,000 SCFH, this pigtail supplies far more flow than a single-stage connection, protecting against bypass shutdowns.
Operates from -40F to 140F (-40C to 60C), suitable for cold-weather camping and high-desert summer heat alike.
Meets UL569 and ANSI Z21.81 standards. Accepted by inspectors and compliant with NFPA 58 LP gas installation requirements.
The Type 1 (POL-style ACME) fitting is the dark green, hand-tighten connection standard on virtually all modern RV propane cylinders above 1 pound. It replaced the older POL brass fitting and is now the predominant connection type for travel trailers, fifth wheels, and motorhomes using horizontal or vertical cylinder configurations. If your cylinders have a threaded valve collar with a large knurled nut, this is your fitting type.
Two-stage regulators are designed to enter bypass (lockup) mode when they detect a downstream pressure drop that mimics a system leak. An undersized or deteriorated pigtail restricts flow enough to trigger this falsely. Upgrading to the MB Sturgis Type 1 with its 1/4" ID hose and 200,000 SCFH rating eliminates this as a cause.
This pigtail is designed specifically for use with two-stage LP regulators, the type used in nearly all RVs built after the mid-1990s. In a two-stage system, each cylinder has its own pigtail feeding into an automatic changeover or manual selector valve, which feeds the first-stage regulator. The 15-inch length provides enough slack to handle standard OEM cylinder compartment layouts without strain on the tank valve.
At 15 inches, this hose fits most standard RV dual-cylinder brackets with the regulator mounted between the two cylinders. If your regulator is offset or your cylinder compartment is unusually deep, MB Sturgis also manufactures this same Type 1 assembly in longer lengths. Measure from the cylinder valve to the regulator inlet before ordering if you are unsure.
LP hose assemblies should be inspected annually and replaced on a schedule regardless of visible condition. Thermoplastic hose can develop micro-cracks from UV exposure, ozone, and repeated freeze-thaw cycling that are not visible to the naked eye. NFPA 58 and most RV manufacturers recommend replacement every 5-10 years at minimum, or immediately if any cracking, kinking, or abrasion is found.
This assembly is rated for LP (propane) gas only. Do not use with natural gas, compressed air, or any other medium. LP gas systems operate at different pressures and require components specifically listed for propane service.
