The B&W Patriot line was built for truck owners who already use a gooseneck hitch for flatbed or livestock trailer duty and don't want to install -- and then remove -- a bulky set of 5th wheel rails every time they switch trailers. The RVK2602 bracket kit is the vehicle-side component of that system: a set of precision-fabricated steel brackets and mounting hardware designed to fit specific truck bed floor and frame mounting points.
Because B&W engineers each bracket kit to a particular make, model, and bed configuration rather than using a generic universal plate, the Patriot head sits solidly over the rear axle centerline where it belongs. The Patriot converts a standard 2-5/16 inch gooseneck ball into a functional 5th wheel coupling point. The system has two main components: the Patriot head (the pivoting, cushioned coupler that grabs the trailer kingpin) and the custom bracket kit (the RVK2602, which you're looking at now). The bracket kit mounts to your truck bed and provides the receiver socket into which the Patriot head locks. Once the head is installed on the brackets, it sits over your existing gooseneck ball and captures the trailer kingpin exactly as a traditional 5th wheel hitch would.
Because the gooseneck ball still does the actual load transfer to the truck frame, you retain all the structural strength of your proven gooseneck setup. The Patriot head adds the kingpin jaw, front-to-rear and side-to-side pivot, and the cushion that 5th wheel trailers expect at the coupler.
Note: The Patriot 5th wheel head is NOT included. This kit contains only the truck-bed bracket mounting hardware. You must purchase the Patriot head (B&W part number RVH2500 or the current equivalent) separately to complete the system.
Installation is straightforward for anyone comfortable with under-bed work. On most supported trucks the brackets bolt directly to existing frame mounting holes -- the same holes used by the OEM 5th wheel prep package -- so no drilling is required. A torque wrench and basic hand tools are all that is needed. Most installs are complete in under two hours.
