Replacing patio awning fabric is a two-person job. The fabric slides onto the roller tube and the lead rail. On Solera, Dometic, and Carefree assemblies, the old fabric is typically removed by loosening the end caps and sliding the fabric out of the rail channels. The new fabric slides in and the end caps are re-secured.
A heat gun or warm, sunny day helps the vinyl relax and seat into the channels cleanly. Do not force cold fabric -- the material is rated to -25F for cracking resistance but performs best when installed at temperatures above 50F.
