B&W Hitches 16,000 lb GTW Made in the USA B&W Hitches BMHD30010 -- Heavy-Duty 16K Ball Mount with 2-Inch Drop

When you are pulling a fifth-wheel gooseneck, a heavy travel trailer, or a loaded equipment trailer behind a three-quarter ton or one-ton truck, your ball mount has to be as strong as the rest of the system. The B&W BMHD30010 is a forged steel ball mount rated at 16,000 lb gross trailer weight (GTW) with a 2-inch drop, designed for use in a 2.5-inch receiver. It delivers the tight tolerances, anti-rattle fit, and corrosion-resistant finish that serious towers depend on for consistent, confidence-inspiring towing every trip.

The Right Mount for Heavy-Duty Towing Applications

B&W Hitches has built a reputation in the heavy-haul and agriculture towing markets for producing mounts that do not flex, do not wobble, and do not corrode. The BMHD30010 is part of their Heavy Duty Ball Mount series -- products built around forged steel shank construction, precision machining, and a powder coat or chrome-style finish that resists road salt and weather. Unlike stamped or welded mounts, B&W forged ball mounts are a single continuous piece of steel through the shank, maximizing strength at the critical bend point.

The 2-inch drop is the right call when your receiver sits higher than your trailer coupler. On lifted trucks or stock three-quarter ton and one-ton pickups towing lower-profile trailers, a 2-inch drop brings the ball down to a level hitch angle -- critical for proper trailer brake function, tongue weight distribution, and safe sway control. Get the geometry wrong and even a great trailer will handle poorly; get it right and you barely know it is back there.

16,000 lb GTW Rating

Handles the full weight of heavy travel trailers, horse trailers, car haulers, and equipment trailers up to 16,000 lb gross trailer weight.

2-Inch Drop Geometry

Corrects hitch height on lifted or tall-profile trucks towing trailers with standard coupler heights, keeping the tow angle level and safe.

Forged Steel Construction

One-piece forged shank eliminates weld joints at the stress point. Stronger than stamped or fabricated mounts at equivalent weight.

2.5-Inch Receiver Fit

Sized for the 2.5-inch square receiver found on heavy-duty pickups (Ford Super Duty, Ram 2500/3500, GM 2500HD/3500HD) and some commercial tow vehicles.

Fitment and Truck Compatibility

The BMHD30010 fits any 2.5-inch square receiver hitch. Most factory 2.5-inch receivers are found on:

  • Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty (most model years)
  • Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 (most model years)
  • GM Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD / Chevy Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD
  • Nissan Titan XD equipped with factory or aftermarket 2.5-inch receiver
  • Heavy-duty commercial vehicles and fleet trucks with 2.5-inch class V receivers

Always confirm your receiver size before ordering. A 2.5-inch shank will not fit a standard 2-inch receiver without an adapter sleeve, and using one with an undersized receiver is unsafe at this weight rating.

One-Piece Forged Advantage: B&W forges this mount from a single billet of steel -- the shank and the ball platform are not welded together. That means no weld heat-affected zones, no hidden stress risers, and consistent yield strength across the entire part. It is why B&W can back these mounts with confidence at 16,000 lb ratings.

Choosing the Right Drop for Your Setup

Getting the correct drop keeps your trailer level -- which matters for brakes, weight distribution hitches, and tire wear. Here is how to measure:

  • Measure from the ground to the top inside edge of your receiver opening (receiver height).
  • Measure from the ground to the bottom of your trailer coupler when the trailer is sitting level (coupler height).
  • The difference is your required drop or rise. A 2-inch drop is correct when your receiver sits about 2 inches higher than your coupler.

Common setups where a 2-inch drop works: stock three-quarter ton and one-ton trucks (typically 18-21 inches receiver height) towing trailers with couplers in the 16-19 inch range.

Ball Size Not Included: This is the shank and platform only -- a hitch ball is sold separately. For 16,000 lb-rated towing, pair this mount with a B&W or equivalent 2-5/16 inch ball rated to at least 16,000 lb. Using an undersized or lower-rated ball voids the weight rating of the assembly.

Corrosion Resistance for Long-Term Use

B&W finishes their Heavy Duty Ball Mounts with a durable coating designed to resist road salt, moisture, and UV exposure. This is important for full-timers and seasonal towers who leave equipment exposed year-round, and for trucks that see winter road conditions with heavy brine and salt applications. The forged base material itself is less porous than cast alternatives, which further reduces corrosion initiation under the finish.

Maintenance Tip: After towing in wet or salty conditions, remove the ball mount from the receiver, rinse both the shank and the receiver tube with fresh water, and allow to dry before reinserting. A light coat of anti-seize on the shank prevents the mount from bonding to the receiver over time -- a common problem with mounts left in place for months.

About the B&W Heavy Duty Ball Mount Series

B&W offers their Heavy Duty Ball Mount line in several drop and rise configurations to cover the full range of truck-and-trailer combinations. The BMHD30010 sits in the 16,000 lb tier with a 2-inch drop. Other options in the series cover rises and drops from 0 to 4 inches or more. All share the same forged construction standard and receiver compatibility. If you are building out a tow package across multiple trailers with different coupler heights, B&W mounts can be swapped to dial in the right geometry for each application.

Important Information -- Read Before Towing
  • This ball mount is rated at 16,000 lb GTW. Never exceed the lowest-rated component in your towing system -- including the receiver, ball, coupler, and vehicle tow rating.
  • A hitch ball is NOT included. Always use a ball rated to at least 16,000 lb GTW and the correct diameter for your trailer coupler (typically 2-5/16 inch at this weight class).
  • This mount fits 2.5-inch square receivers only. Do not attempt to insert a 2.5-inch shank into a 2-inch receiver with or without a sleeve -- this is unsafe at any weight rating.
  • Torque the hitch ball nut to the ball manufacturer's specification before each towing season and after any ball removal. An improperly torqued ball can loosen under load.
  • Always use a properly rated hitch pin and clip -- or a locking hitch pin -- to secure the mount in the receiver. Loss of a ball mount at highway speed is a severe road hazard.
  • Confirm that your truck's receiver and vehicle tow rating support 16,000 lb before use. The mount rating does not override vehicle limitations.
  • Do not modify, weld, drill, or heat this ball mount. Any alteration voids the weight rating and can cause catastrophic failure under load.
