The Fastway Flash Simple Ball Mount is precision-machined in the Mountain West from solid aircraft-grade aluminum and polished to a mirror finish — stronger and longer-lasting than other aluminum ball mounts, at about half the weight of comparable steel alternatives. The 42-99-2800 is the 8" drop / 9" rise version, suited for mildly lifted trucks or trailers with lower coupler heights that need more drop to achieve a level tow.
Like all Flash Simple models, the 42-99-2800 features a single-pin adjustment system for fast, tool-free ball height changes — pull the pin, slide to the correct height, re-lock. Two chrome-plated hitch balls (2" and 2-5/16") are included on a reversible ball platform, so you can switch between trailers with different coupler sizes without carrying extra hardware. The 8" model is stowable under most trucks when not in use, keeping storage areas clean and uncluttered between towing sessions.

The Flash Simple 42-99-2800 is a ball mount — it connects your tow vehicle to your trailer and holds the hitch ball securely. It does not provide weight distribution or trailer sway control. A ball mount carries the full tongue weight directly onto the tow vehicle's rear suspension. For heavier trailers where tongue weight causes the rear of the vehicle to sag, or where sway is a concern, a weight distribution hitch is the appropriate solution. Fastway offers the e2™ Weight Distribution Hitch series in round bar and trunnion styles for these applications. Consult your tow vehicle's owner's manual for its tongue weight capacity and whether a weight distribution hitch is required for your specific setup.
Selecting the correct drop size ensures your trailer tows level — critical for safe handling, even tire wear, and hitch longevity. Step 1: Measure your tow vehicle's receiver opening height from the ground — measured on level ground with the vehicle loaded as it will be while towing. Step 2: Measure your trailer's coupler height from the ground — measured with the trailer loaded as it will be while towing. Step 3: Subtract the coupler height from the receiver height. The result is your required drop. Example: Receiver at 23" — Coupler at 15" = 8" drop → 42-99-2800 is the correct choice. The 42-99-2800 also functions as a 9" rise when flipped upside down — for setups where the coupler sits higher than the receiver.
Installation Steps: 1. Confirm Drop Size: Measure receiver height and coupler height to confirm 8" drop (or 9" rise) is correct for your setup 2. Select Ball: Choose the 2" or 2-5/16" ball side of the reversible platform based on your trailer's coupler size 3. Set Height: Pull the stainless steel pin, slide the ball platform to the desired height, and re-insert the pin to lock 4. Insert into Receiver: Slide the shank into your 2" hitch receiver and secure with a hitch pin and clip (Fastway Dual Lock Pack recommended — sold separately) 5. Connect Trailer: Lower your trailer coupler onto the hitch ball and secure the coupler latch 6. Verify Level: Confirm the trailer is riding level before loading and towing Never exceed the rated GTW or tongue weight for the ball mount, hitch ball, receiver hitch, or tow vehicle.
