CarCover5-Ply Top / 3-Ply SidesLifetime WarrantyCarCover Gold Shield 5L Travel Trailer Cover -- Fits 14 ft to 16 ft (SKU: 5RV-TT-1416)

Purpose-built all-season storage cover for travel trailers measuring 14 to 16 feet in length. Heavy-duty 5-layer top and 3-layer sides combine UV-resistant polypropylene with a breathable microporous film to block rain, snow, and sun while venting trapped moisture that causes mildew and rot. Comes with zippered access panels, adjustable wind buckles, elasticized hems, a patch kit, and a storage bag -- everything you need for long-term storage or seasonal layup.

All-Season Protection Built for Serious RV Storage

The Gold Shield 5L is designed for RV owners who leave their trailer stored outdoors for weeks or months at a time. The laminated 5-ply top panel forms a reinforced barrier against hail, ice, tree sap, and bird droppings, while the extended top hem drapes down the sides to shed rain runoff and reduce direct sun exposure on the sidewalls.

Unlike economy single-layer covers that trap moisture and cook the paint underneath, the Gold Shield 5L uses a microporous film layer that lets water vapor escape outward while preventing liquid water from penetrating inward. This breathability is critical for trailers stored in humid climates or parked under trees.

5-Ply Top Construction

Layered UV-resistant polypropylene with microporous film blocks sun, rain, snow, and hail while resisting fabric breakdown over multiple seasons.

3-Ply Side Panels

Triple-layer sides defend against crosswind debris, rain splash, and direct sun exposure on the largest surface area of your trailer.

Zippered Access Panels

Entry door and compartment panels are accessible without removing the entire cover -- important for accessing shore power hookups or checking interior during storage.

Adjustable Buckle System

Weighted buckles cinch the cover tight to prevent wind billowing and fabric fatigue. Elasticized front and rear hems further lock the cover in place at corners.

Fit and Coverage Details

This cover is sized for trailers with an overall body length of 14 to 16 feet. Cover dimensions are 16.5 ft long x 8.75 ft wide x 9.17 ft tall, providing extra margin to wrap down the sides and accommodate standard roof-mounted features. The ladder cap and gutter covers are integrated into the cover design to prevent the most common tear points from sharp edges.

Supports Up to Three Rooftop AC Units: The cover is cut and reinforced to accommodate standard rooftop air conditioner profiles without forcing the fabric tight against shrouds -- reducing stress on the stitching around AC cutouts.

Reflective and Visibility Features

Reflective panels are sewn into the cover to improve visibility when the trailer is parked in a driveway, low-light storage yard, or roadside location. The sun-reflective outer surface also reduces heat buildup inside the trailer during summer storage, helping protect vinyl flooring, upholstery, and dashboard plastics from heat cracking and UV fade.

Breathable, Not Waterproof in the Traditional Sense: This cover uses a microporous membrane rather than a waterproof coating. Water vapor escapes outward; liquid water is repelled. This is intentional -- it eliminates the moisture trap that ruins paint and causes rot under sealed plastic covers. Do not expect the interior to remain bone dry in a prolonged driving rainstorm, but for stationary storage it outperforms coated tarps in preventing mold and mildew.

Installation and Hardware

No tools are required for installation. The cover is designed for a single-person install, though a second person speeds up the process on a 16 ft trailer. Weighted buckles drop under the trailer frame and self-cinch. Elasticized hems at the front cap and rear panel corners grip the contours of the trailer to reduce shifting in wind.

  • Weighted buckles tighten and hold without tying knots
  • Elasticized corner hems reduce cover creep during wind
  • Zippered panels allow access to entry door and utility bays
  • Ladder cap prevents sharp aluminum rungs from abrading the fabric
  • Gutter trim covers prevent tearing at drip rail edges
  • Patch kit included for field repair of any minor punctures
  • Storage bag included for compact off-season storage of the cover itself
Maintenance Tips: Rinse the cover with fresh water seasonally to remove accumulated pollen, bird droppings, and debris that can abrade the fabric over time. Store in the included bag when not in use. Inspect ladder cap and gutter covers each season for wear -- these areas take the most friction.
Sizing Reminder: This cover fits trailers with a body length of 14 to 16 feet. Measure your trailer from front cap to rear bumper before ordering. If your trailer falls in the 16 to 18 ft range, CarCover offers the next size up. Using an undersized cover will stress the seams and reduce service life.

Important Information
  • This cover is sized for travel trailers with a body length of 14 to 16 feet. Measure front cap to rear bumper before purchasing.
  • This is a storage cover, not a driving cover. Do not use while towing.
  • The microporous fabric is breathable and vapor-permeable by design. It is not a sealed waterproof tarp. Some condensation on interior surfaces during heavy sustained rain is normal and expected.
  • Inspect ladder cap and gutter cover areas at the start of each storage season. These are the highest-wear contact zones and should be checked before damage spreads to the main fabric panels.
  • Do not store the cover while wet or dirty. Rinse, dry, and fold into the included bag to maximize service life.
  • Keep the cover clear of sharp protruding hardware on the trailer exterior. The patch kit is included for minor repairs but repeated punctures indicate a fit or installation issue.
Protecting your RV with a quality cover is essential for maintaining its value and longevity. RVs are significant investments that are often exposed to harsh weather conditions, making them susceptible to damage from corrosion, mold, and UV rays. Unlike standard vehicles, RVs serve as mobile homes for many, and a cover can provide added insulation and privacy, enhancing your comfort while protecting against the elements. By investing in an RV cover, you reduce wear and tear, ensuring that your RV remains in excellent condition for years to come.

How To Measure Your Travel Trailer:

Length: Measure the longest two points from the front to the rear of the trailer, including bumpers, spare tire, and ladder, but excluding the hitch and tongue of the trailer.

Height: Measure the trailer sidewalls from the very top of the roofline down to the outside frame. Exclude ground clearance, roof-mounted accessories, vents, and A/C units.

How to Install Your Travel Trailer Cover:

1. Identify the front of the cover by locating the "Front" tag on the interior.
2.
Lay the cover lengthwise on the ground, inside out, with the exterior facing up.
3.
Fold the sides toward the center and roll the cover from the rear, leaving the front end loose.
4.
Position the rolled cover at the rear of the RV near the ladder.
5.
Loosen the roll slightly, then climb the ladder while holding the front end.
6.
Pull the cover onto the roof gradually until you have a strip covering the entire roof.
7.
Starting at the front, unfold the cover side to side, letting it drape down the sides as you move to the rear.
8.
Ensure the corner opposite the ladder is positioned under the cover’s corner.
9.
Climb down while bringing the cover down with you, then adjust the cover as needed.

Removal:

1. Undo all straps and zippers on the cover.
2.
Lift the front of the cover to the top of the RV.
3.
Pull the cover down from the rear.

For Cleaning:

Proper care of your RV cover is essential for maintaining its performance and water resistance. Contaminants like dirt and grease can damage the cover, so regular washing is recommended for long-lasting protection.

You can wash the cover by hand or in a washing machine. For hand washing, install the cover on your RV, rinse it with a hose, then use a cloth and multi-purpose cleaner to scrub. Rinse again and either towel dry or let it air dry.

For machine washing, use the largest machine available, set it to gentle mode, and wash with mild powder detergent in cold water—avoid bleach and fabric softeners. Rinse the cover twice to remove all detergent, and always air dry.
