The Camco 44323 is a thumb-operated cam lock for RV exterior baggage compartment doors — the most common type of latch used on travel trailer, 5th wheel, and motorhome storage compartment panels. It operates without a key: a quarter-turn of the thumb tab rotates the cam plate behind the door panel, catching the door frame and holding the compartment closed. Turning the thumb tab the other way releases the cam and opens the door.
This lock includes both a straight cam and an offset cam, giving the installer flexibility to choose whichever cam geometry correctly engages the compartment's door jamb. The cylinder is 7/8" long and requires a 3/4" diameter mounting hole in the door panel. It fits door panels up to 5/8" thick (or up to 1-1/16" with the offset cam). This is a non-locking thumb turn only — it secures the door but does not provide keyed security.
Three measurements determine whether this lock fits your compartment: 1. Cylinder length (7/8"): The distance from the face of the door to the back of the cylinder. Measure the depth of your existing lock hole or the door's backset. 2. Mounting hole diameter (3/4"): The diameter of the hole in the door panel the cylinder passes through. 3. Door thickness (up to 5/8"): The thickness of the door panel at the lock location. Use the straight cam for up to 5/8"; the offset cam can accommodate up to 1-1/16". The 44323 is a non-locking thumb turn cam lock. It holds the compartment door closed but does not lock — anyone can open it by turning the thumb tab.
