CURT MFG7-Way USCARReplacement EndCURT 56229 -- USCAR 7-Way Replacement Connector End

Stop paying for a whole new wiring harness when only the connector end is damaged. The CURT 56229 is a dedicated USCAR-style 7-way replacement end that lets you splice onto your existing trailer cable and restore a solid, weatherproof connection in minutes. Whether you backed into a dock post, melted a connector, or simply need to extend your harness, this is the correct repair component for trailers wired to the modern USCAR 7-pin round standard.

Fix the End, Not the Whole Harness

The USCAR 7-way connector standard has largely replaced the older SAE flat-pin design on late-model trucks and SUVs from GM, Ford, FCA/Stellantis, and Ram. If your trailer's wiring uses a round 7-pin plug and your tow vehicle has a matching USCAR-style socket on the receiver, the CURT 56229 is your direct replacement end when the existing plug is cracked, burned, or corroded.

CURT's 56229 is built to the same USCAR round-pin specification used on OEM trailer connections, so it mates cleanly to factory receiver-end sockets without adapters. The connector carries all seven circuits -- electric brakes, running lights, left turn/brake, right turn/brake, reverse/auxiliary, battery charge, and ground -- covering every trailer wiring function for travel trailers, fifth wheels, flatbeds, horse trailers, and boat trailers.

Full 7-Way USCAR Pinout

All seven trailer functions supported: brakes, running lights, left/right turn-brake, aux/reverse, 12V charge, and ground.

Replacement End Only

Designed to splice onto your existing trailer cable -- no need to replace the full harness when only the plug is damaged.

USCAR Round-Pin Standard

Mates directly to factory USCAR-style vehicle-side sockets on GM, Ford, Ram, and other late-model tow packages.

Compact and Lightweight

At 0.48 lbs and 9.0 x 4.0 x 3.0 inches packaged, it stores easily in your trailer toolbox for roadside repairs.

What Is the USCAR Standard?

USCAR (United States Council for Automotive Research) defined a round 7-pin connector specification that automakers adopted to improve durability and weather resistance over the older SAE 7-way blade connector. The USCAR plug features a round housing with a locking collar, seven round pins arranged in a circular pattern, and a contact size and spacing different from the legacy flat-blade 7-way. The two connector types are not interchangeable without an adapter -- confirm which type your tow vehicle uses before ordering.

How to confirm you need the USCAR style: Look at the socket on your tow vehicle's hitch. USCAR sockets have seven round pin receptacles arranged in a circle with a flat key at the top. The older SAE standard uses a flat rectangular blade arrangement. Most GM, Ford, and Ram trucks built after the mid-2000s use USCAR from the factory.

Common Applications

  • Repairing a cracked, melted, or corroded 7-way USCAR trailer plug
  • Extending an existing trailer harness that is too short for a new tow vehicle
  • Building a custom wiring harness for a flatbed, horse trailer, or specialty trailer
  • Replacing the factory USCAR end after wiring upgrades to trailer brake controller circuits
  • Boat trailers and cargo trailers wired with the USCAR round 7-pin standard

Installation Overview

The 56229 is a connector end only -- no pre-attached cable. You will strip and insert your existing trailer wires into the terminal positions of this replacement end and secure them per the standard USCAR wiring color code (typically: white = ground, black = 12V charge, blue = electric brakes, yellow = left turn/brake, green = right turn/brake, brown = running lights, purple = reverse/aux). A proper weatherproof connection is recommended at each terminal to prevent corrosion-related voltage drop.

Wiring Color Reference (USCAR/SAE Standard): White -- Ground | Black -- Battery/Charge | Blue -- Electric Brakes | Yellow -- Left Turn and Brake | Green -- Right Turn and Brake | Brown -- Tail/Running Lights | Purple -- Reverse or Auxiliary Power
Maintenance Tip: Apply dielectric grease to the pin contacts after installation. USCAR connectors on trailers are exposed to road spray and moisture. A thin coat of dielectric grease in the plug cavity dramatically extends connector life and prevents the green corrosion that causes brake controller faults and blown fuses.
Verify Your Connector Type: If your tow vehicle has the older SAE flat-blade 7-way socket (common on older GM trucks and many factory receiver-installed sockets pre-2005), this USCAR round-pin replacement end will NOT plug in directly. CURT offers 7-way flat-pin replacement ends and USCAR-to-SAE adapters if your setup mixes the two standards.
Related CURT Products: If you need a complete USCAR 7-way trailer connector with pre-attached cable, look at the CURT 56165 or similar CURT T-connector and extension harness products. For the vehicle-side USCAR socket, see CURT's 7-way round pin vehicle connectors. CURT part 57222 is a common USCAR-to-SAE adapter if your tow vehicle and trailer use different standards.

Important Information
  • This is the USCAR round-pin 7-way standard -- it will NOT directly mate with SAE flat-blade 7-way sockets. Verify your vehicle's socket type before installing.
  • This is a connector END only -- no cable is included. You must splice this onto your existing trailer harness wiring.
  • Do not exceed the rated amperage for each circuit. The brake circuit (blue) is designed for standard 12V electric drum brake systems; verify compatibility before using with hydraulic brake actuators.
  • Always apply dielectric grease to pin contacts to prevent corrosion, especially in high-moisture environments (boat ramps, coastal travel, winter road salt exposure).
  • Ensure all wire terminations are properly crimped or soldered and protected against moisture intrusion. Loose or exposed connections can cause intermittent brake faults and running light failures.
  • Confirm your trailer wiring color code matches the USCAR standard before splicing. Some older trailers use non-standard color assignments.
