Inspect the ball platform, shank, and hitch pin hole regularly for cracks, deformation, or wallowing. A loose or worn hitch pin hole is a signal to replace the mount. Keep the shank clean and lightly lubricated with anti-seize compound to prevent the mount from seizing inside the receiver tube, especially in regions that use road salt.
