A purpose-built replacement hitch ball machined to the exact tolerances of the Equal-i-zer weight-distribution system. Forged from high-strength chrome steel and finished with double chrome plating, this ball is engineered to handle heavy fifth-wheel and travel-trailer loads without flex or corrosion creep.
The Equal-i-zer weight-distribution and sway-control hitch is a precision system -- using an undersized, off-brand, or worn ball introduces play that degrades sway control and accelerates coupler wear. Part 14-8627 is sized and toleranced to mate exactly with Equal-i-zer head assemblies, ensuring the ball-to-coupler interface stays tight through thousands of towing miles.
The 2-5/16" ball diameter is the standard for trailers rated above 6,000 lb gross weight, making this the correct choice for most fifth-wheel-style couplers, heavy travel trailers, and toy haulers towed behind 3/4-ton and 1-ton trucks. The 1-1/4" diameter threaded shank fits the receiver ball mounts used across the Equal-i-zer lineup as well as many other weight-distribution heads from competing brands.
Forged -- not cast -- construction produces a denser grain structure that resists cracking and deformation under dynamic towing loads up to 14,000 lb.
Two-layer chrome finish resists rust and road grime. Keeps the ball surface smooth so coupler latch engagement stays consistent trip after trip.
1-1/4" diameter x 2-1/4" long threaded shank installs with the included lock washer and nut -- no separate hardware run required.
Equal-i-zer backs this ball with a 2-year warranty against manufacturing defects, the same coverage offered on their full hitch assemblies.
This ball is specifically engineered for Equal-i-zer weight-distribution hitches but the 2-5/16" / 1-1/4" shank combination is an industry-standard spec. It is compatible with ball mounts from Reese, Curt, Pro Series, Blue Ox, and other brands that accept a 1-1/4" threaded shank and require a 2-5/16" ball diameter.
Before ordering, confirm your trailer coupler is sized for 2-5/16". Using a 2" ball in a 2-5/16" coupler -- or vice versa -- is a dangerous mismatch. Check the coupler label or owner documentation for the correct ball diameter.
No additional hardware needed for a standard installation on an Equal-i-zer ball mount.
Thread the shank through the ball mount hole from the top, place the lock washer and nut on the underside, and torque to the specification listed in your Equal-i-zer hitch manual -- typically 300 ft-lb for a 1-1/4" ball shank. A properly torqued nut prevents the ball from spinning under load, which is the most common cause of premature ball-mount wear.
Inspect the ball surface for pitting, corrosion, or flat spots before each towing season. A worn or pitted ball increases coupler wear and can affect how cleanly the coupler latches. Replacing the ball is far less expensive than replacing a coupler.
Apply a light coat of ball lubricant or white lithium grease to the ball surface before connecting the coupler. This reduces coupler wear and prevents the metal-on-metal squeak common on long highway hauls.
