When you need a ball mount that won't flinch under a loaded fifth-wheel toter, a heavy horse trailer, or a loaded car hauler, B&W's BMHD30210 is built for exactly that job. With a 16,000 lb gross towing capacity, a 2-inch drop, and a solid 6-inch shank, this forged steel mount is engineered for serious towing -- not weekend warrior loads. If your truck sits higher than your trailer coupler, this is the drop you need to level out your rig and tow safely.

The Right Drop. The Right Length. The Right Strength.

Ball mounts look simple, but getting the wrong drop or the wrong shank length is one of the most common towing mistakes RV owners make. A ball that sits too high or too low throws off your trailer tongue weight distribution, puts stress on your hitch receiver, and can cause sway. The BMHD30210 is sized for lifted trucks and taller tow vehicles that need a 2-inch drop to bring the ball down to proper trailer coupler height.

The 6-inch shank seats fully into a standard 2-1/2-inch receiver and provides enough engagement depth to safely transfer the full 16,000 lb load. B&W builds this mount from forged steel -- not cast -- which means a denser grain structure, higher impact resistance, and a safer failure mode under dynamic towing loads.

16,000 lb Gross Towing Capacity

Rated for heavy trailers including loaded horse trailers, car haulers, and large travel trailers. Check your tow vehicle's hitch rating -- the lowest rated component governs your safe tow limit.

2-Inch Drop

Designed for lifted trucks and higher tow vehicles. Drops the ball platform 2 inches below the receiver centerline to achieve a level trailer hitch angle.

6-Inch Shank

Long shank ensures full engagement in 2-1/2-inch receiver tubes. Provides adequate clearance for pintle hooks, weight-distribution components, or anti-sway bars in some setups.

Forged Steel Construction

Forged -- not cast or welded plate. Forging aligns the steel grain for superior tensile strength and fatigue resistance under the repetitive stress of long-haul towing.

Fitment -- Receiver Size and Compatibility

The BMHD30210 is designed for 2-1/2-inch receiver hitches, which are standard on most heavy-duty 3/4-ton and 1-ton pickup trucks (Ford F-250/F-350, Ram 2500/3500, Chevy/GMC 2500HD/3500HD) and many Class A motorhome tow bars. It will NOT fit a standard 2-inch receiver without an adapter sleeve, and B&W does not recommend using shim adapters at this capacity rating.

  • Fits 2-1/2-inch (2.5") square receiver tubes
  • Designed for HD trucks: Ford F-250/F-350, Ram 2500/3500, GM 2500HD/3500HD
  • Compatible with B&W heavy-duty hitch receivers that accept standard shanks
  • NOT compatible with 2-inch receiver hitches without a rated adapter
  • NOT compatible with 5th wheel or gooseneck hitch systems (different product family)
Why Choose B&W? B&W Hitches is an American manufacturer based in Humboldt, Kansas, known primarily for their Turnoverball gooseneck and Companion 5th wheel hitches. Their ball mount line uses the same commitment to forged steel construction and conservative capacity ratings. BMHD30210 is part of their heavy-duty ball mount series aimed at max-capacity conventional towing.

Selecting the Correct Drop for Your Setup

The goal of any ball mount is a level trailer when loaded. A level trailer minimizes tongue weight transfer errors and reduces sway risk. To find your correct drop:

  • Measure from the ground to the top of your receiver tube opening (truck parked on level ground, unloaded)
  • Measure from the ground to the bottom of your trailer coupler (trailer on level ground, loaded)
  • Subtract the coupler height from the receiver height -- that difference is your required drop
  • A 2-inch drop is common for lifted 3/4-ton and 1-ton trucks with 6-inch suspension lifts or factory high-ride suspensions
Ball Not Included: The BMHD30210 is a ball mount shank -- no hitch ball is included. You will need to source a compatible 2-5/16-inch or 2-inch hitch ball separately rated to at least 16,000 lbs. Verify ball shank diameter and thread pitch match your ball mount's ball platform hole before purchase.

Shank Engagement and Safety

The 6-inch shank provides ample insertion depth for proper engagement in your receiver. Best practice is to insert the shank fully until the hitch pin hole is accessible, then secure with a rated 5/8-inch hitch pin and clip -- or a locking hitch pin for theft deterrence. Never tow with the hitch pin missing or with a pin that is undersized for the hole diameter.

Torque Your Ball Correctly: At 16,000 lb capacity, a loose hitch ball is a serious hazard. Use a torque wrench to tighten the ball nut to the manufacturer's specification (typically 300+ ft-lbs for a 2-5/16-inch ball). Recheck torque after the first 50 miles of towing and periodically thereafter.
Maintenance Tips: Inspect the shank and ball platform for cracks, deformation, or rust pitting before each towing season. Light surface rust can be wire-brushed and treated. Any visible cracks, bending, or deformation means the mount must be replaced immediately -- do not weld or re-machine a damaged ball mount. Store with a receiver cover when not in use to keep debris out of the receiver tube.

Important Information -- Read Before Towing
  • This ball mount is rated for 2-1/2-inch receivers only. Do not use in a 2-inch receiver, even with an adapter sleeve, at this capacity level.
  • No hitch ball is included. Purchase a separately rated ball compatible with the ball platform hole size and torque it to specification.
  • Always verify that your tow vehicle's receiver hitch is rated to at least 16,000 lbs GTW and 1,600 lbs tongue weight before towing at maximum capacity.
  • The lowest-rated component in your tow chain (vehicle, hitch, ball mount, ball, coupler) governs your legal and safe towing limit -- exceeding any single component's rating is unsafe and may be illegal.
  • Inspect the mount for cracks, bending, or corrosion before each use. Replace any damaged mount immediately -- do not attempt repair by welding or machining.
  • Secure with a rated 5/8-inch hitch pin -- never substitute an undersized pin or bolt at this capacity rating.
  • Confirm your trailer coupler is rated to match the ball size and towing capacity you intend to use.
