B&W Hitches 16,000 lb GTW 2" Drop B&W Hitches BMHD30011 -- Heavy-Duty Ball Mount, 16K GTW, 2-Inch Drop

When you're pulling a heavy fifth-wheel-rated gooseneck trailer, a bumper pull horse trailer, or a loaded equipment trailer, your ball mount is not the place to cut corners. The B&W Hitches BMHD30011 is a forged, heavy-duty ball mount rated at 16,000 lb gross trailer weight, built to fit 2-1/2-inch receiver tubes and deliver a 2-inch drop to level your trailer tongue on most full-size truck applications. This is the mount serious towers reach for when the load is real and the margins are slim.

Purpose-Built for Heavy-Duty Towing

B&W Hitches has built its reputation supplying the commercial, agricultural, and RV towing markets with hardware that outlasts the vehicles it bolts to. The BMHD30011 is part of their heavy-duty ball mount lineup, targeting owners of 3/4-ton and 1-ton trucks who regularly move large trailers and need a mount that matches their vehicle's actual tow rating -- not just what looks good on the shelf.

The 2-inch drop is the most commonly needed drop spec on full-size pickup trucks equipped with a 2-1/2-inch receiver. It compensates for the height difference between the hitch receiver and the trailer coupler, keeping your trailer level and your tongue weight working properly through the hitch instead of binding the coupler at an angle.

16,000 lb GTW Rating

Rated for up to 16,000 lb gross trailer weight -- appropriate for loaded equipment trailers, livestock trailers, and large bumper-pull RV applications.

2-Inch Drop

The 2-inch drop matches the most common receiver-to-coupler height differential on full-size 3/4-ton and 1-ton trucks with a 2-1/2-inch receiver.

2-1/2-Inch Receiver Fit

Shank is sized for 2-1/2-inch (Class V) receiver tubes. Verify your receiver opening before ordering -- this mount will not fit a standard 2-inch receiver.

Forged Steel Construction

B&W's heavy-duty mounts are forged, not fabricated from welded plate, giving them superior grain structure and fatigue resistance under repeated heavy load cycles.

Matching Your Receiver and Drop

The two most common mistakes when buying a ball mount are choosing the wrong shank size and choosing the wrong drop. This mount is specifically for 2-1/2-inch receivers -- the larger Class V opening found on heavy-duty trucks and commercial receivers. If your truck has a standard 2-inch receiver opening (the most common size on light-duty and half-ton trucks), this is not the correct mount.

The 2-inch drop means the ball platform sits 2 inches below the centerline of the receiver tube when the mount is installed. To find the drop you need, measure from the ground to the top of your receiver tube opening, then measure from the ground to the bottom of your trailer coupler when the trailer is level. The difference between those two numbers (accounting for the receiver tube height and ball height) gives you your required drop. A 2-inch drop is typical for many full-size trucks with 2-1/2-inch receivers towing trailers with a standard 14-to-18-inch coupler height.

Forged for Fatigue Resistance

B&W uses forged steel construction on their heavy-duty mounts rather than welded fabrication. Forging aligns the grain structure of the steel along the load path, which is critical for components that see millions of stress cycles over a truck's towing lifetime. This is not a marketing claim -- it's a meaningful manufacturing difference for any mount near or at its rated capacity.

Ball Size Compatibility

The BMHD30011 ball platform is drilled to accept standard 1-1/4-inch shank tow balls, which covers the full range of common 2-inch, 2-5/16-inch, and 1-7/8-inch balls used in bumper-pull towing. At 16,000 lb GTW, most applications will use a 2-5/16-inch ball -- verify that your chosen ball is rated to match the mount's 16K GTW rating. The ball itself is sold separately; this mount ships without a ball installed.

Ball and Pin/Clip Sold Separately

The BMHD30011 ships as the ball mount shank and head only. A tow ball, hitch pin, and retaining clip are not included. For 16,000 lb GTW applications, use a 2-5/16-inch ball rated to at least 16,000 lb. B&W offers matching balls and accessories in their hardware lineup.

RV and Trailer Towing Applications

This mount is well suited for owners towing heavy bumper-pull RV trailers -- large travel trailers in the 12,000 to 16,000 lb GVWR range that require a Class V receiver setup. It also serves agricultural and commercial users moving livestock trailers, flatbeds, car haulers, and equipment trailers. If your trailer's GVWR approaches or exceeds 12,000 lb, a 16K-rated mount provides the margin you want.

For fifth-wheel and gooseneck towing, the ball mount is not used -- those hitches mount directly in the truck bed. The BMHD30011 is a bumper-pull / conventional hitch accessory.

Maintenance Tip

Inspect the shank and ball platform for corrosion, cracks, or deformation at least once per season or after any hard towing event. Keep the shank clean and lightly greased where it contacts the receiver tube to prevent galvanic corrosion and seizing. Torque the hitch pin hardware to spec after installation and check periodically during long hauls.

Confirm Your Tongue Weight Rating

A 16,000 lb GTW rating does not automatically mean the mount supports unlimited tongue weight. Verify the tongue weight (TW) capacity of this mount against your trailer's actual tongue weight loading. Your truck's receiver hitch, frame rating, and the ball mount must all be rated at or above both the GTW and TW of your trailer.

Important Information -- Read Before Installing
  • This ball mount is designed exclusively for 2-1/2-inch Class V receiver tubes. It will not fit a 2-inch or 1-7/8-inch receiver opening. Measure your receiver before ordering.
  • Maximum GTW is 16,000 lb. Never exceed the rated GTW of the mount, the receiver hitch, or the vehicle's tow rating -- use the lowest rating among all components in the system.
  • A tow ball, hitch pin, and clip are NOT included. For 16K GTW applications, use a 2-5/16-inch ball rated to at least 16,000 lb.
  • Verify tongue weight capacity before towing. GTW rating alone does not confirm tongue weight (TW) capacity -- confirm TW rating separately for your specific loading.
  • Inspect the mount before each towing season and after any collision, hard stop, or overload event. Do not use a mount that shows cracks, deformation, or corrosion in load-bearing areas.
  • Always use a properly rated hitch pin and locking device to secure the shank in the receiver. An unsecured ball mount is a safety hazard.
  • Check all applicable federal, state, and local regulations regarding trailer towing, safety chains, and brake requirements for trailers in your GTW range.
