Progressive Industries EMS-HW50C Hardwired 50 Amp RV Surge Protector

Progressive Industries EMS-HW50C Hardwired 50 Amp RV Surge Protector

Hardwired EMS with remote digital display. 5-mode surge protection, full fault detection, microprocessor-controlled. Made in the USA. Lifetime warranty.

Why Choose the Progressive Industries EMS-HW50C?

The EMS-HW50C is the gold standard in electrical protection for 50-amp RVs. As a full Energy Management System — not merely a surge protector — it uses a state-of-the-art microprocessor to continuously monitor your shore power and automatically cuts power to the RV the instant a dangerous condition is detected, then restores it automatically once power returns to safe levels.

What sets the 50-amp EMS-HW50C apart from its 30-amp counterpart is 5-mode surge protection covering all five possible surge paths on a 240V/50A system, delivering nearly double the joule capacity at 3,580J and 88,000 amps of surge current. Because it hardwires directly between your RV's AC inlet and electrical panel, it's always in place — no forgetting it at home, no risk of theft from the pedestal. The included 14-foot remote display cable mounts the scrolling digital readout inside your RV for at-a-glance monitoring without ever going outside.

⚡ 5-Mode Surge Protection

Covers all five paths on a 50-amp system — L-N, L-N, L-G, L-L, and N-G — for maximum surge defense

🖥️ Remote Digital Display

14' data cable lets you mount the scrolling readout inside your RV for continuous monitoring of all power metrics

🔒 Always Protected

Hardwired installation means it's always working — never left behind, never stolen from the pedestal

🇺🇸 Made in the USA

Engineered and manufactured domestically with a Limited Lifetime Manufacturer Warranty

Complete Protection Features

  • High/Low Voltage Protection: Automatically cuts power if voltage drops below 104V or rises above 132V, then auto-restores when safe
  • 5-Mode Surge Protection: Protects all five paths — Line-to-Neutral (L-N), Line-to-Neutral (L-N), Line-to-Ground (L-G), Line-to-Line (L-L), and Neutral-to-Ground (N-G) — 3,580 joules / 88,000 amp rating / <1 nanosecond response time
  • Accidental 240V Protection: Detects and blocks accidental connection to incorrect 240V power; if detected while power is already applied, the EMS shuts off instantly (display reads voltage + E-3)
  • Open Ground Protection: Reads E-2 error code and blocks power if the pedestal ground is missing
  • Reverse Polarity Protection: Reads E-1 error code and blocks power if hot and neutral wires are swapped at the pedestal
  • Lost/Open Neutral Protection: Blocks power entirely — display will not light — if the neutral line is open or missing
  • AC Frequency Protection: Shuts down power if frequency deviates more than ±9 Hz from 60 cycles per second (E-7 or E-8 error code)
  • Surge Fault Indicator: E-10 error code alerts you if a power surge has damaged the internal surge protection circuit, signaling replacement is needed
  • Previous Error Indication: Stores and displays the last fault code (PE prefix) so you can diagnose what caused a prior power interruption — clears when power is disconnected
  • A/C Compressor Time Delay: Built-in adjustable delays (136-second and 15-second settings) protect compressors from short-cycling after a power interruption
  • Microprocessor Controlled: Computer-driven state-of-the-art microprocessor manages all EMS functions and monitoring simultaneously
  • Thermally Protected: Internal thermal protection safeguards the unit itself during extreme operating conditions
  • Field Serviceable / Modular Design: Individual components can be replaced without removing the entire unit — plug-and-play replacement parts

🔌 Why Hardwired Beats Portable

Portable surge protectors sit exposed at the power pedestal where they're vulnerable to theft and the elements. A hardwired EMS installs inside your RV once and protects you every single time you plug in — no setup required, no forgetting it at home.

The EMS-HW50C also goes far beyond basic surge protection. A portable-only unit stops surges but can't detect open grounds, reversed polarity, lost neutrals, or frequency faults. The EMS-HW50C monitors all of these conditions simultaneously and responds in under a nanosecond.

📋 Installation Overview

Professional installation is strongly recommended.

The EMS-HW50C installs between your RV's AC shore power inlet and the main electrical panel. Always use #6 gauge wire for the HW50C. General steps:

1. Disconnect shore power completely and ensure the generator is off

2. Mount the EMS unit in a protected interior location near the AC inlet

3. Wire in-line between the AC inlet and your RV's breaker panel per the included wiring diagram (black → L1, white → L2, red → L3, green → ground)

4. Route the data cable to your preferred display location inside the RV

5. Mount the remote display panel — never plug in the display while RV power is on

6. Restore power and verify all readings on the remote display

The modular design allows individual components to be replaced without removing the entire unit.

⚠️ Error Code Quick Reference

E-1 — Reverse Polarity (hot/neutral swapped at pedestal)
E-2 — Open Ground (missing ground at pedestal)
E-3 — Accidental 240V detected
E-7 — Frequency too low (>9 Hz below 60 Hz)
E-8 — Frequency too high (>9 Hz above 60 Hz)
E-10 — Surge fault: internal surge circuit damaged, unit needs replacement
PE prefix — Previous error code (e.g. PE-4 = prior low voltage event)

No display illumination = Open/Lost Neutral detected. Do not attempt to bypass — have the pedestal inspected by a qualified electrician.
