B&W Hitches 16,000 lb Rated Heavy-Duty Steel B&W Hitches PMHD14003 -- 16K Pintle Plate Adapter for Lunette Ring Towing

Turn your existing receiver hitch into a capable pintle hook mount without swapping out your entire hitch assembly. The B&W PMHD14003 pintle plate is built for serious towing duty -- rated to 16,000 lbs gross trailer weight -- and is the hardware of choice for RVers, contractors, and fleet operators who tow trailers equipped with lunette ring couplers. Bolt it up, drop in your pintle hook, and haul with confidence.

When You Need a Pintle Mount That Actually Handles the Load

Ball-and-coupler setups dominate recreational towing, but plenty of heavy utility trailers, military-style flatbeds, equipment haulers, and commercial dump trailers use a lunette ring (or lunette eye) coupler instead. A lunette ring slips over a pintle hook, which in turn must be mounted to a rated plate -- that plate is this part.

The B&W PMHD14003 is a purpose-built steel plate that accepts a standard pintle hook body and mounts to the receiver hitch shank or directly to a ball mount / hitch head in B&W's Pro Series lineup. At 16,000 lbs GTW capacity, it handles serious working loads that far exceed what a standard ball hitch can safely manage.

16,000 lb GTW Rating

Heavy-duty capacity handles large utility trailers, equipment haulers, and commercial dump trailers that require a pintle connection.

Precision Steel Construction

Heavy plate steel with tight-tolerance machining -- no flex, no slop. B&W's manufacturing standard means repeatable fitment every time.

Compact Footprint

At 10.85" x 7.0" x 2.22", this plate keeps the pintle hook positioned close to the hitch without adding unnecessary stack height.

B&W Pro Series Compatible

Designed to integrate with B&W's Pro Series receiver hitches and companion pintle hook hardware for a fully rated towing system.

What Is a Pintle Plate and Why Do You Need One?

A pintle hook cannot bolt directly to most tow vehicles -- it needs an intermediate mounting plate that interfaces with the vehicle's receiver hitch system and provides a flat, fully supported bolting surface for the pintle hook body. The PMHD14003 is that plate.

The plate transfers tongue load and drawbar pull forces from the pintle hook into the receiver shank and hitch frame rather than concentrating stress on just the hook bolts. This is why using a rated plate like the PMHD14003 matters -- an improvised or underrated mount is a failure point waiting to happen at the worst possible moment.

Designed for Working Tow Setups
Pintle towing is common in agricultural, military, construction, and commercial fleet applications because the lunette ring allows more articulation than a ball coupler -- better for rough terrain, uneven loading docks, and trailer tandems. The PMHD14003 brings that capability to vehicles equipped with a standard receiver hitch.

Typical Applications

  • Towing heavy utility trailers, flatbeds, and gooseneck/pintle combo setups where the front axle uses a lunette ring
  • Agricultural trailers and implement haulers with lunette couplers
  • Construction equipment trailers (skid steer, mini excavator) rated in the 10,000-16,000 lb range
  • Government, military-surplus, or fleet trailers built to pintle/lunette standards
  • RVers towing a toad or secondary trailer with a lunette ring coupler behind a fifth wheel or Class A motorhome
  • Contractors who rotate between ball-mount and pintle setups on the same tow vehicle

Pairing With a Pintle Hook

The PMHD14003 is the plate only -- the pintle hook itself is sold separately. B&W offers compatible pintle hooks in its Pro Series lineup. When selecting a pintle hook to pair with this plate, confirm that the hook's bolt pattern and bolt size match the plate's mounting holes. B&W pintle hooks designed for the PMHD14003 will list this plate as a compatible mount.

Pintle Hook Sold Separately
This listing is for the PMHD14003 mounting plate only. You will also need a compatible B&W Pro Series pintle hook to complete your towing setup. Verify hook-to-plate bolt pattern compatibility before ordering.

Installation Overview

Installation requires bolting the pintle hook to the plate using the hook manufacturer's specified hardware (typically grade 8 bolts), then mounting the plate assembly into your receiver hitch or ball mount head. Always torque all fasteners to the pintle hook manufacturer's specification and use hardened washers under all bolt heads and nuts.

Maintenance Tips
- Inspect the plate and all mounting bolts for wear, elongation, or corrosion before each heavy tow.
- Re-torque bolts after the first 50 miles of use and check periodically thereafter.
- Keep the pintle hook pivot pin lubricated with a heavy grease to reduce wear on the lunette ring contact surface.
- If bare steel shows surface rust, wire brush and apply a rust-inhibiting paint or wax to extend service life.

Important Information -- Read Before Installing
  • This plate is rated to 16,000 lbs GTW. Never exceed the rated capacity of the plate, the pintle hook, or the tow vehicle hitch -- the lowest rating in the chain governs the safe limit.
  • The pintle hook is NOT included. Confirm your pintle hook bolt pattern is compatible with this plate before purchase.
  • All mounting hardware must be grade 8 or equivalent. Do not substitute lower-grade fasteners in a pintle towing application.
  • The tow vehicle receiver hitch, frame, and vehicle GVWR must all support the intended loaded trailer weight. This plate alone does not create capacity -- it transfers load to the hitch system.
  • Inspect all components for cracks, elongated holes, and corrosion before every heavy haul. Replace any damaged hardware immediately.
  • This product is intended for use by persons familiar with pintle towing systems. If you are unfamiliar with lunette ring towing setups, consult a qualified hitch installer before use.
