The Steele Rubber Products 83-1035-277 is a 1/2" H x 1" W Rectangular Square Edge Sponge Rubber Extrusion with Peel-N-Stick ā a superior-grade 100% EPDM sponge rubber weatherstrip designed for a wide range of RV applications. It is the ideal replacement for old, worn, or damaged seals on compartment doors, entry doors, hatches, and windows, and its versatile rectangular profile opens up additional uses beyond standard weatherstripping.
Unlike open-cell foam weatherstrips, this extrusion is made from 100% EPDM sponge rubber that excels at resisting moisture, ozone, and UV exposure over the long term. The solid rectangular profile will not fade, shrink, or crack. Installation is simple: peel off the adhesive backing and press the seal into place along the door or hatch perimeter. The seal will also fit into existing channels on the RV if the original seal seated in a track rather than adhering directly to a surface.
Beyond weatherstripping, this profile is suited for two additional uses: as a screw track insert cover where its dimensions align with the track opening, and as a vibration dampener between surfaces that rattle or shift during travel. The seal can also be mitered at corners or bonded end-to-end using Loctite Super Bonder 495 to create a custom one-piece gasket for specialized applications.

Apply between 60Ā°F and 104Ā°F (15Ā°Cā40Ā°C) for best adhesive bond strength. The temperature difference between the seal and the bonding surface should be as small as possible. Surface Preparation: Completely remove all old seal material, adhesive residue, dirt, wax, and moisture before applying. Wipe the bonding surface with isopropyl alcohol and allow to fully dry. For installations into existing channels, ensure the channel is clean and free of debris before pressing the seal in place.

What You Need: No tools required for peel-and-stick application. Recommended supplies: isopropyl alcohol, clean cloth, tape measure, scissors or utility knife. For corner mitering: miter box and knife; Loctite Super Bonder 495 for bonding. Basic Installation Steps: 1. Check Temperature: Confirm ambient temp is between 60Ā°F and 104Ā°F (15Ā°Cā40Ā°C) ā match surface and seal temperature as closely as possible 2. Remove Old Seal: Completely remove all old weatherstrip material and adhesive residue from the mounting surface or channel 3. Clean & Dry: Wipe the bonding surface with isopropyl alcohol and allow to fully dry 4. Measure & Cut: Measure the door or hatch perimeter and cut the seal to length ā miter corners at 45Ā° if a one-piece gasket is desired 5. Peel & Press: Remove the adhesive backing and press the seal firmly onto the mounting surface or into the existing channel, working from one corner around the perimeter 6. Bond Corners (Optional): Apply Loctite Super Bonder 495 to mitered corners or end-to-end joints to create a seamless one-piece gasket 7. Test the Closure: Close the door or hatch to confirm even compression and a consistent, gap-free seal
