5/16" H x 1/2" W 100% EPDM sponge rubber ribbed narrow weatherstrip with closed-cell core, solid skin surface, and exclusive 3M skirted Peel-N-Stick adhesive. Ideal for RV windows, doors, and hatches. Fits most RVs. Black, 10 ft pre-cut strip.
The Steele Rubber Products 83-1038-277 is a 5/16" H x 1/2" W Peel-N-Stick Ribbed Narrow weatherstrip — a top-quality 100% EPDM sponge rubber seal designed for sealing windows, doors, and hatches across a wide variety of RV makes and models. The narrow ribbed profile makes it well-suited for tighter sealing gaps and window frame perimeters where a lower-profile seal is needed to compress cleanly without overhanging the mounting surface.
Unlike standard open-cell foam weatherstrips, this seal features a closed-cell sponge rubber core surrounded by a solid skin surface — a construction that delivers significantly better weather resistance, compresses more predictably under closure force, and holds its shape longer through repeated open-and-close cycles. The ribbed surface profile aids compression by flexing consistently against the mating surface, forming a reliable seal against wind, moisture, dust, and UV exposure.
Installation is quick and straightforward with the exclusive skirted Peel-N-Stick adhesive design: peel, position, and press. The recessed skirting surrounds the adhesive edges, protecting the tape from moisture and debris intrusion and creating a clean, professional finished appearance with no exposed adhesive edges. This profile fits most RVs and is ideal as a universal replacement seal for worn or damaged weatherstripping on windows, compartment doors, access doors, and hatches.
Low-profile 5/16" H x 1/2" W ribbed design — ideal for tighter sealing gaps and window frame perimeters where a standard-width seal is too wide
Closed-cell sponge core surrounded by solid skin surface — more durable than standard open-cell foam with better weather and wear resistance
Recessed skirting surrounds adhesive edges — prevents moisture and debris from collecting on the tape and ensures a long-lasting surface grip
Broadly compatible profile for windows, doors, and hatches across a wide range of RV makes and models — a versatile universal replacement seal
Apply between 60°F and 104°F (15°C–40°C) for best adhesive bond strength. The temperature difference between the seal and the bonding surface should be as small as possible — avoid applying in direct sunlight on a hot surface or in cold ambient conditions. Surface Preparation: Completely remove all old seal material, adhesive residue, dirt, wax, and moisture before applying. Wipe the bonding surface with isopropyl alcohol and allow to fully dry. Thorough surface prep is the single most important factor in long-term adhesion performance.
Primary Part Number: 83-1038-277 Fits Most RVs — This narrow ribbed profile is broadly compatible across a wide range of RV makes and models for window, door, and hatch sealing applications. Always measure your existing seal dimensions (5/16" H x 1/2" W) and confirm fit before purchasing. Typical Applications: • RV window frame perimeters • Compartment and access doors • Hatch sealing • Replacement for worn or damaged narrow ribbed weatherstripping Available Lengths (Same Profile): • 5 ft — same profile, shortest length • 10 ft — Part 83-1038-277 (This Item) • 30 ft — same profile, longest length • Also available by the foot for custom lengths Note: Application temperature 60°F–104°F. Surface prep with isopropyl alcohol recommended for maximum bond life.
What You Need: No tools required for adhesive application. Recommended supplies: isopropyl alcohol, clean cloth, tape measure, scissors or utility knife. Basic Installation Steps: 1. Check Temperature: Confirm ambient and surface temp is between 60°F and 104°F (15°C–40°C) — minimize the temperature difference between seal and surface 2. Remove Old Seal: Completely remove all old weatherstrip material and adhesive residue from the mounting surface 3. Clean & Dry: Wipe the bonding surface with isopropyl alcohol and allow to fully dry before applying 4. Measure & Cut: Measure the window or door perimeter and cut the seal to length with scissors or a utility knife 5. Peel & Press: Starting at one end, remove the backing a few inches at a time and press the seal firmly onto the surface — do not remove all backing at once 6. Test the Closure: Close the window, door, or hatch to confirm the ribbed profile compresses evenly and creates a consistent, gap-free seal Tip: For full perimeter applications, bond seal ends at corners with a small amount of cyanoacrylate adhesive (super glue for rubber) for a continuous one-piece gasket effect. Allow 72 hours for full adhesive cure.
