Eliminate steering play and wander with tapered roller bearings. Direct bolt-in replacement for Freightliner XC and Magnum chassis with I-Beam front suspension. Made in USA with lifetime warranty.
If you own a Freightliner XC or Magnum motorhome chassis, you've probably experienced frustrating steering play and wander. That loose, vague feeling in the steering wheel isn't just annoying - it's a safety concern that can make your motorhome difficult to control, especially at highway speeds or in crosswinds.
The problem can be traced to your bell crank (also called an idler), which supports the steering linkage. Original equipment designs use common sleeve bushings that bind, wear out prematurely, and cannot be adjusted for side play. As these bushings deteriorate, you'll notice increasing steering wander, "tail wagging the dog" sensations, rut tracking, and excessive steering wheel movement before the wheels actually respond.
The SuperSteer SS100 Bell Crank eliminates these issues by replacing those inadequate sleeve bushings with premium tapered roller bearings. Tapered roller bearings are far superior at carrying load and can be adjusted to achieve smooth, precise movement without any binding. The result is tighter, more responsive steering that dramatically improves your motorhome's handling and safety.
Tapered roller bearings replace factory sleeve bushings for adjustable, binding-free operation
Direct replacement for original part - no modifications required for installation
Investment cast aluminum housing with steel spindle built for durability
American-made quality with lifetime warranty to the original owner
The SS100 fits 3-bolt mounting style ONLY. If your chassis has a 4-bolt mounting style, this part will NOT fit. Does NOT fit the VFS I-Beam front suspension (Hendrickson VTEK NXT) found on 2023+ Freightliner XC chassis. For Magnum Chassis: To determine fitment, measure your bolt pattern on your original equipment bell crank. The SS100 measures 4.14" center to center on the bottom and 3.625" center to center on each side. If you're unsure about compatibility, contact SuperSteer technical support at 888-898-3281 before ordering.
Professional wheel alignment is required after installing the SS100 bell crank. Any time a steering component is replaced, the wheel alignment must be checked and adjusted to manufacturer specifications. Proper alignment ensures optimal tire life, steering response, and vehicle handling. Most RV service centers can perform the alignment in conjunction with bell crank installation.
Installation and removal of the bell crank arms on Freightliner XC chassis requires a specialized puller. SuperSteer manufactures the SS100P Bell Crank Arm Puller specifically for this application. The SS100P features heavy-duty steel construction with 3/4" thread on a grade 8 bolt, designed to fit the large bell crank arms found on Freightliner XC chassis. Note: The SS100P puller is only compatible with square bell crank arms and is sold separately.
Installation is straightforward for experienced mechanics: 1. Remove steering linkage using appropriate puller (SS100P recommended) 2. Unbolt and remove original bell crank assembly 3. Install SS100 bell crank with included hardware 4. Reconnect steering linkage 5. Adjust tapered roller bearing preload for smooth operation 6. The SS100 bell crank is compatible with the following Freightliner and Magnum chassis configurations with I-Beam front suspension and 3-bolt mounting pattern.
Factory Sleeve Bushings: • Bind and wear out prematurely • Cannot be adjusted for side play • Create increasing looseness over time • Cause steering wander and vague feel • Contribute to excessive steering free play SuperSteer Tapered Roller Bearings: • Far superior at carrying load • Can be adjusted (pre-loaded) for precise movement • Turn freely without binding • Maintain tight tolerances over time • Dramatically reduce steering play and wander • Provide smooth, responsive steering feel This upgrade is one of the most effective improvements you can make to your motorhome's steering system.
