Catalytic heating works differently from conventional flame heaters. A catalytic pad oxidizes propane at low temperature, producing radiant heat without an open flame. That process captures nearly all of the fuel energy -- Camco rates the Wave-6 at 99.98% efficiency, compared to flame-type heaters that can waste up to 45% of heat produced through exhaust gases.
Because there is no combustion flame, no flue pipe, and no blower motor, the Wave-6 runs silently and draws zero amps from your RV battery. It operates on standard low-pressure propane from your existing RV supply, and a built-in Piezo igniter handles startup with no matches or lighter needed. In larger coaches, it works well as a zone heater for the living area, reducing furnace run time and propane consumption. Dialing back to 3200 BTU/hr gives you a lower steady-state setting for mild nights.
The Wave-6 can be wall-mounted using the integrated mounting bracket, or set on a flat surface using the included portable stand. For wall mounting, connect to a low-pressure propane line (RV appliance pressure, typically 11 inches water column). The unit must be installed in a vented area -- do not operate in a sealed, unventilated space.
The Wave-6 is rated for operation at altitudes up to 12,000 feet above sea level -- well above the elevation of most campgrounds in the Rockies, Sierra Nevada, and other high-country destinations. Many standard RV furnaces derate or fail to ignite reliably above 7,000-8,000 feet; the catalytic design is inherently more tolerant of lower ambient oxygen levels.
The Wave-6 connects to a standard RV low-pressure propane supply. It does not include a propane hose or regulator adapter -- your existing RV LP appliance line is typically used. If installing as a portable unit away from the RV, you will need a compatible low-pressure hose and regulator (sold separately) that matches your propane cylinder type.
