If you scrape, sand, or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. Lead is toxic. Exposure to lead dust can cause serious illness, including brain damage, especially in children. Pregnant women should also avoid exposure. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and wet mop. 1. Remove all loose dirt, oil, rust, chalk, mildew, loose coating, and other contaminants. If chalk remains on a previously painted roof, repeated washing may be necessary 2. Thoroughly rinse with water and allow to dry completely 3. Remove all rust down to bright metal using mechanical methods — wire brush, sandpaper, or steel wool 4. Apply Dicor Metal Rust Inhibitive Primer to all clean, rust-removed areas 5. Seal all fasteners and around all roof protrusions and vent mountings with Dicor Lap Sealant 6. Seal all joints and roof seams with Dicor Coating Ready Cover Tape prior to applying the top coat 7. Once primer has dried, apply Dicor Elastomeric Metal RV Roof Coating

The primer controls rust but does not substitute for mechanical rust removal.
