The FreshJet 5 is engineered to use the same 14.25 x 14.25-inch roof opening as the Dometic Penguin II series. No roof cutting or custom adapter required for most Penguin II installations. Verify your current unit uses the standard Penguin footprint before ordering.
Unlike older R-410A units, the FreshJet 5 uses R-32 refrigerant, which offers a lower global warming potential and improved thermodynamic efficiency. R-32 requires EPA Section 608-certified technicians for any refrigerant service -- this is not a DIY refrigerant task. The sealed system arrives pre-charged from the factory and should not need field refrigerant service under normal operation.
The FJX5557EHPBKCS ships with the Multi-Zone FreshJet control board already installed in the unit. This board enables integration with Dometic's Connect ecosystem for zone-by-zone climate management across multiple rooftop units. You still need the Connect Essential thermostat and the ADB (Air Distribution Box) -- sold separately -- to complete a functional installation. The unit will not operate without a compatible thermostat connected.
The FreshJet 5 mounts through the standard 14.25 x 14.25-inch roof opening. A gasket seal is included to prevent water intrusion between the unit base and the roof surface. Torque the mounting bolts evenly to compress the gasket uniformly. The unit requires a 120V AC shore power or generator connection -- it is not a 12V DC unit.
This unit requires the Dometic Connect Essential thermostat AND the compatible ADB (Air Distribution Box) to function. Neither is included with this purchase. Confirm you have both components on hand before installation. Operating the unit without the ADB installed risks evaporator damage from unrestricted airflow.
