Equal-i-zer Hitch 1,200 lb Tongue / 12,000 lb GTW Made in USA Equal-i-zer 90-00-1200 -- Weight Distribution + 4-Point Sway Control in One Unit

Most weight distribution setups require a separate sway control bar bolted on as an afterthought. The Equal-i-zer eliminates that entirely. Its 4-point sway control geometry is built directly into the hitch head and spring-arm design, so the same hardware that levels your trailer also actively resists trailer sway -- with no add-on friction bars, no extra adjustments, and no additional wear points to manage on the road.

One Hitch. Two Critical Jobs.

Traditional weight distribution hitches redistribute tongue weight across the tow vehicle and trailer axles -- but they leave trailer sway to friction-based add-ons that wear out, require re-adjustment, and often get disconnected in tight turns. The Equal-i-zer 90-00-1200 handles both functions simultaneously. Its four-point sway resistance works in every direction and stays active throughout turns without any disconnect-reconnect routine.

This kit is rated for a maximum tongue weight of 1,200 lbs and a maximum gross trailer weight of 12,000 lbs, covering a wide range of fifth-wheel-capable travel trailers, large toy haulers, and heavy conventional trailers. Everything needed for installation ships in the box -- the only items you supply are a hitch ball and your tools.

4-Point Sway Control

Integrated sway resistance acts at four points simultaneously -- no friction bars, no add-ons, no mid-trip adjustments needed.

No Drilling Required

Attaches to any standard 2-inch receiver with the included hardware. No tapping, cutting, or fabrication involved.

Snap-Up Lever System

Spring arms lock and release with a simple lever -- no torque wrench, no friction clips, no manual chain tensioning required.

Lifetime Warranty

Backed by Equal-i-zer's limited lifetime manufacturer warranty. Made in the USA from domestically sourced steel.

What Makes the 4-Point Design Different

Conventional weight distribution systems use two spring bars that push up on the trailer tongue and pull back on the tow vehicle frame. Sway resistance, if any, is handled by a separate friction-style bar that clamps to the trailer A-frame. That bar has to be removed for tight turns, backing, and any time you're in a campsite -- meaning you're often towing without sway protection when you're most likely to need it.

The Equal-i-zer's spring bars are connected to the hitch head in a way that resists lateral movement at the coupler. Trailer sway loads are transferred into the tow vehicle chassis rather than building up at the hitch point. The geometry remains active in turns without any operator intervention. This is why many experienced towers say it feels noticeably more planted than a traditional WD setup -- particularly in crosswinds, on grades, and during lane changes at highway speed.

Complete Kit -- Ready to Install

The 90-00-1200 ships with every component you need to get on the road:

  • Hitch head with integrated 4-point sway control
  • Standard shank -- 3-inch drop / 7-inch rise, 12-inch shank length
  • Two spring arms (36 inches long x 1-1/2 inches wide)
  • 2-5/16-inch hitch ball
  • Snap-up lever
  • All installation hardware
  • Owner's manual

Not included: hitch ball if a different size is required, torque wrench, and any other tools.

Receiver and Trailer Fitment

This hitch is designed for a standard 2 x 2-inch trailer hitch receiver. The receiver on your tow vehicle must be rated at or above the tongue weight and gross trailer weight for your specific load -- confirm your vehicle's receiver class and rating before ordering. The shank inserts fully into the receiver and is secured with the included hardware; no modifications to the receiver are required.

The sway-control bracket mounts to the trailer frame between 27 and 32 inches back from the center of the coupler. This is the critical fitment measurement -- measure your trailer's A-frame before ordering to confirm the bracket will land within that range. The maximum trailer frame height is 6 inches, which fits the vast majority of conventional travel trailer and toy hauler A-frames.

Shank Rise and Drop -- Getting Your Angles Right

The included standard shank offers up to 7 inches of rise or up to 3 inches of drop from the top of the hitch receiver opening. This accommodates tow vehicles and trailers where the coupler sits higher or lower than the receiver. For applications requiring greater rise or drop, Equal-i-zer offers alternative shanks sold separately -- verify your tow vehicle receiver height and trailer coupler height before ordering.

Installation Overview

Installation requires no drilling, tapping, or vehicle modification beyond inserting the shank into the receiver. The hitch head attaches to the shank, the spring arms are positioned and locked using the snap-up lever, and the sway control bracket is bolted to the trailer A-frame within the 27-32 inch window. Equal-i-zer provides a detailed owner's manual, and installation typically takes 1-2 hours for a first-time installer following the included instructions.

Initial setup does require proper torque values on the shank bolts and coupler -- refer to the included owner's manual for the specific torque specifications, as correct torque is critical for safe operation.

Setup and Adjustment Tips
  • Measure front-to-rear level on the tow vehicle before hitching -- record the measurement at each fender to check restoration after coupling.
  • The sway control bracket position (27-32 inches from coupler center) directly affects sway performance -- take your time measuring before drilling the bracket.
  • Grease the hitch ball and coupler socket at each hookup to reduce wear on the coupler.
  • Recheck all hardware torque after the first 50 miles of towing with a new installation.
  • Spring arms are not interchangeable between different Equal-i-zer weight ratings -- use only the arms supplied with this kit.

Why Towers Choose the Equal-i-zer Over Traditional WD Systems

  • No separate sway bar to remove before backing or navigating tight campsite turns
  • Fewer parts to inspect, adjust, and replace over the life of the hitch
  • Snap-up lever makes hookup and unhooking faster than chain-and-bracket systems
  • 4-point resistance is active in all driving conditions without any driver action
  • Made in the USA with a limited lifetime warranty -- not a commodity import product

Important Information -- Read Before Ordering and Before First Use
  • Your tow vehicle's hitch receiver must be rated for at least 1,200 lbs tongue weight and 12,000 lbs GTW -- this hitch does not upgrade a receiver's rating.
  • The trailer A-frame must allow the sway control bracket to mount between 27 and 32 inches back from the coupler center. Measure before ordering -- this is a hard fitment requirement.
  • Maximum trailer frame height of 6 inches must not be exceeded for the sway control bracket to engage correctly.
  • The included shank provides up to 7 inches of rise or 3 inches of drop. Applications outside this range require an alternate shank sold separately.
  • Spring arms are rated and designed specifically for this weight class -- do not substitute arms from other Equal-i-zer kits or other brands.
  • Do not exceed the 1,200 lb tongue weight or 12,000 lb gross trailer weight ratings under any load condition.
  • Correct installation torque values are specified in the included owner's manual -- torquing to spec is required for safe towing, not optional.
  • This hitch does not eliminate the need for trailer brakes on trailers that require them under applicable state laws.
  • Recheck all fastener torque after the first 50 miles and at each subsequent 3,000-mile interval or at the start of each towing season.
Weight Distribution: Weight distribution is the ability of a hitch to transfer some of the tongue weight of the trailer from the rear axle of the tow vehicle to the front axle of the tow vehicle, and backward to the trailer axles. Without weight distribution the tow vehicle “teeter-totters” on the rear axle of the tow vehicle, and un-weights the front axle. Proper weight distribution transfers weight back to the front steering axle, forcing it back to the ground. Proper weight distribution also adds performance to the integrated sway control feature of your Equal-i-zer hitch. The Equal-i-zer hitch requires a minimum tongue weight of at least 10% of gross trailer weight. This tongue weight gets distributed, and helps generate the friction needed to reduce trailer sway.

Sway Control: Integrated sway control is a built-in, patent pending feature of your Equal-i-zer hitch. Once the spring arms are tensioned, the sway control is in force. Integrated sway control works through the connection between your spring arms and L-brackets, and between the sockets and hitch head. The Equal-i-zer hitch takes advantage of the steel-on-steel friction generated at these points to help reduce trailer sway. This added friction makes it much more difficult for the trailer to sway side-to-side while its being towed, as is usual when you encounter a gust of wind, or passing semi. When set up well and properly adjusted for your load, the Equal-i-zer can noticeably reduce sway.

The Equal-i-zer Engineering Behind The Hitch

Sway Control Hitch

1. Sway Control Brackets:

Rigid trailer attachments work with friction sway control to combat trailer sway. Brackets are height adjustable to control the amount of weight distribution tension on the spring arms.

2. Spring Arms:

The spring arms serve two purposes. When raised onto the sway control brackets they transfer trailer tongue weight evenly to the tow vehicle. They also work with the friction sway control to reduce trailer sway.

3. Downward Pressure:

Downward pressure from trailer tongue increases friction sway control. Trailer hitch ball mounts here.

4. Upward Pressure:

Sway control brackets distribute weight by maintaining upward pressure on spring arms. The amount of pressure on the spring arms is a factor of trailer tongue weight and vehicle suspension. The friction sway control utilizes this pressure to control trailer sway.

5. Friction sway control:

Friction is enhanced by downward pressure from trailer tongue and upward pressure on spring arms. These opposing pressures come together to create an unequaled sway control system.
