GE Appliances 15,000 BTU Heat Pump R32 Refrigerant

GE GRHS15XAHB RV Rooftop Heat Pump Air Conditioner -- Black

Cool your rig in summer and heat it down to 25F in shoulder seasons -- all from a single rooftop unit. The GRHS15XAHB uses eco-friendly R32 refrigerant, corrosion-resistant coatings, and noise-reducing construction to deliver year-round comfort without burning propane for every cool morning.

Cooling and Heating in One Rooftop Unit

Most RV air conditioners do one thing: cool. The GE GRHS15XAHB adds a full heat pump circuit, so when fall temperatures drop into the upper 20s, you can run electric heat instead of firing up your propane furnace. That means lower propane consumption on longer trips, less furnace run time, and one less thing to maintain heading into cold weather.

The unit runs on R32 refrigerant, which carries roughly 70% lower global warming potential than R410A and zero ozone depletion potential. It is a direct upgrade path from the GE ARH15AACB cool-only rooftop unit and fits the same standard 14-inch x 14-inch RV roof opening used by most Coleman, Dometic, and legacy GE rooftop units -- though an upgrade kit is required for most swap installations.

Heat Pump Down to 25F

Provides electric heat on cool mornings and shoulder-season nights without propane

R32 Eco Refrigerant

70% lower GWP than R410A, zero ODP, and more efficient heat transfer per pound of charge

Corrosion-Resistant Build

Coated coils and UV-stabilized housing stand up to coastal humidity and road grime

Quiet Operation

Noise-reducing fan and compressor mounts keep interior sound levels low at cruising speed and at rest

Why the Heat Pump Matters for RV Owners

A heat pump moves heat rather than generating it, making it far more efficient than resistance heating at temperatures above freezing. At 40F outside, a heat pump can deliver 2 to 3 units of heat energy for every unit of electricity consumed. Once outdoor temps drop below 25F, the refrigerant cycle loses enough efficiency that auxiliary heat -- your furnace -- takes over. This makes the GRHS15XAHB ideal for three-season camping and southern winter travel, not for sub-freezing alpine winters.

Propane Savings in Real Use

Full-timers and snowbirds who camp in 30F to 55F conditions overnight can dramatically reduce propane furnace runtime. The heat pump runs on shore power or a properly sized generator, leaving propane reserves for cooking, water heating, and emergency backup heat.

R32 Refrigerant -- What You Need to Know

R32 is a single-component HFC refrigerant (not a blend), which makes it easier to recharge in the field without fractionation concerns. It is classified as A2L -- mildly flammable -- meaning service must be performed by a certified technician using R32-rated equipment. It is not interchangeable with R410A or R22, and R410A recovery equipment cannot be used on R32 systems without recertification.

R32 Service Requirement

R32 is an A2L mildly flammable refrigerant. Refrigerant service, recovery, and recharge must be performed by a technician certified to handle A2L refrigerants with appropriate R32-rated equipment. Do not attempt to service the refrigerant circuit yourself.

Fitment and Installation Notes

The GRHS15XAHB is designed to fit the standard 14-inch x 14-inch RV roof cutout used on the majority of Class A, Class C, fifth wheels, and travel trailers. It is a direct replacement for the GE ARH15AACB cool-only model. For installations replacing a non-GE unit (Coleman, Dometic, older Carrier units), a GE upgrade/adapter kit is required to properly seal the roof opening and secure the new unit. Verify that your existing ceiling assembly and duct adapter are compatible before ordering.

Upgrade Kit Requirement

An upgrade kit (sold separately) is required when installing this unit in place of a non-GE rooftop AC or when the existing roof gasket and mounting hardware are not GE-compatible. Installing without the correct kit may result in air leaks, roof damage, or improper mounting. Confirm compatibility with GE Appliances technical support or your RV dealer before installation.

Interior Control and Compatibility

The GRHS15XAHB is designed to pair with GE-compatible ceiling assemblies and thermostats. It is not directly compatible with Coleman ADB, Dometic Single Zone CT, or other proprietary thermostat protocols without an adapter. Confirm that your existing ceiling assembly -- the interior unit that houses the fan, filter, and thermostat -- is compatible with the GE rooftop unit before completing your order.

Recommended Accessories

  • GE upgrade/adapter kit for non-GE roof openings (required for most non-GE replacements)
  • Compatible GE ceiling assembly with thermostat (if replacing a non-GE interior unit)
  • Non-shrink roof sealant for perimeter gasket -- inspect and reseal annually
  • 30-amp shore power hookup or appropriately rated generator for consistent operation

Maintenance Tips

  • Clean or replace the interior return air filter every 30 days during heavy use seasons
  • Inspect the rooftop shroud and gasket each spring before the cooling season
  • Check coil fins for debris or insect nesting at the start of each camping season
  • Keep the condensate drain path clear to prevent water backup into the ceiling assembly
  • Have refrigerant pressure checked by an A2L-certified technician if cooling performance drops noticeably

Important Information -- Read Before Ordering

  • Upgrade kit required: Installing this unit to replace a non-GE rooftop AC requires a separate GE upgrade/adapter kit. Do not attempt installation without confirming the correct kit for your application.
  • R32 refrigerant service: R32 is an A2L mildly flammable refrigerant. All refrigerant service must be performed by a technician certified for A2L refrigerants with R32-rated recovery and charging equipment. Do not service the refrigerant circuit yourself.
  • Minimum heat pump temp: The heat pump function operates down to 25 deg F. Below that threshold, use your onboard propane or electric furnace for supplemental heat.
  • Shore power or generator required: This unit runs on 120V AC only. It is not a 12V DC appliance and cannot run on batteries alone without a properly sized inverter system.
  • Ceiling assembly compatibility: Verify that your existing or replacement ceiling assembly is compatible with the GE GRHS15XAHB before installation. Non-GE ceiling assemblies and thermostats are generally not plug-and-play compatible.
  • Weight: Rooftop installation requires two people and attention to roof load limits. Confirm your RV roof structure can support the unit weight before installation.
  • Not for sub-freezing heating: The heat pump is efficient in the 25F to 65F range. For sustained camping below 25 deg F, supplemental heat from your furnace is required.
