Skip the generator. The TurboKOOL 2B-0001 is a roof-mounted evaporative cooler that runs entirely on 12V DC or a small solar panel, delivering up to 750 CFM of filtered, evaporatively cooled air into your RV -- typically dropping interior temps 20 to 30 deg F. It mounts directly over any standard 14 x 14 inch roof vent opening and installs with basic hand tools. Ideal for dry-climate boondocking, campground stays without hookups, or any situation where running an air conditioner and generator is loud, expensive, or impractical.

Efficient Cooling Without Shore Power or a Generator

Evaporative cooling is one of the most energy-efficient methods of temperature reduction available, and TurboKOOL's spin-spray design makes it exceptionally well-suited to the harsh demands of RV rooftop life. Hot outside air is drawn through a non-organic industrial foam filter, where TurboKOOL's "Spin-Spray" pump saturates the entire filter surface -- not just drips water from the top -- ensuring peak cooling across every square inch of the media.

The result is clean, cool, filtered air that has been washed free of dust, pollen, and airborne particulates. Because the motor is air-cooled and completely isolated from the wet filter zone, bearings and windings never contact moisture -- a common failure point on competing designs. The spin-spray pump itself has no conventional wear parts and cannot burn out, even if the water supply runs dry.

3-Speed Reversible Motor

Run in cooling mode or flip to exhaust. Three fan speeds let you dial in airflow from 2.2A (low) up to 4.6A (high), matching comfort to available battery capacity.

Spin-Spray Pump Technology

Solar and 12V Operation

The TurboKOOL 2B-0001 is designed to operate directly from your RV's 12V house battery bank or from a solar panel without any inverter or shore power connection. At low speed the unit draws only 2.2 amps -- well within the output of even a modest solar setup. High-speed operation pulls 4.6 amps, still a fraction of what a rooftop air conditioner compressor demands. This makes the TurboKOOL a practical primary cooling solution for off-grid travel in low-humidity regions.

Boondocking-Friendly Power Draw: At medium speed (3.2A), a 100Ah lithium battery can run the TurboKOOL continuously for well over 24 hours. Pair with a 100W or larger solar panel for indefinite daytime operation with no battery drain.

Water Supply and Consumption

The unit includes a built-in reservoir and an automatic water level control valve. Under typical operating conditions, the TurboKOOL consumes approximately 3 gallons of water per day. You can supply water from the RV's onboard fresh water system or from a dedicated external tank. An optional 3-gallon tank (TurboKOOL 2B-1005R) or 15-gallon tank (TurboKOOL 41-5023) can be added for extended off-grid operation without tapping the main fresh water supply.

Water Source Options: Connect directly to your RV's pressurized water system (an accumulator tank such as the SHURflo unit is recommended to reduce pump cycling) or use a standalone gravity-fed or low-pressure tank. A sediment/inline water filter is also recommended upstream of the unit to extend filter life and protect the spin-spray pump.

Installation Overview

The TurboKOOL 2B-0001 mounts over any standard 14 x 14 inch RV roof vent cutout -- the same opening used by most fan-tastic and Maxxair-style vent fans. Installation requires only basic hand tools and is typically completed in under two hours. A replacement vent frame (sold separately, TurboKOOL 2B-5007R) is available if your existing frame needs replacement. No rooftop cutting or special brackets are required for standard installations.

Humidity Limitation: Evaporative cooling is most effective in dry climates. TurboKOOL recommends use in areas where the average relative humidity does not exceed 75%. In humid climates (Gulf Coast, Pacific Northwest, Florida), cooling performance will be significantly reduced and a conventional air conditioner may be more appropriate.

Adjustable Air Distribution

Individually adjustable louvers let you direct cooled airflow toward sleeping areas, the cab, or the living space. The reversible motor function also allows the unit to serve as a powered exhaust fan when evaporative cooling is not needed -- useful for venting cooking odors or heat buildup on mild days.

Maintenance Tips:
  • Rinse the foam filter with clean water every 2-4 weeks during heavy use. The filter is non-organic and will not harbor bacteria, but mineral deposits from hard water should be flushed periodically.
  • Drain and flush the built-in reservoir at the end of each season or when storing the unit for more than two weeks.
  • Inspect the automatic water level valve each season for mineral scale buildup and clean as needed.
  • Check the roof mounting seal annually and reseal with a compatible lap sealant if any cracking or lifting is observed.

Important Information -- Read Before Ordering
  • Evaporative cooling effectiveness drops significantly above 75% relative humidity. This unit is not a substitute for a compressor-based air conditioner in humid climates.
  • The vent frame (part 2B-5007R), water filter, accumulator tank, 3-gallon water tank (2B-1005R), and 15-gallon water tank (41-5023) are NOT included and must be ordered separately if needed.
  • A water source -- either the RV's onboard pressurized system or a dedicated external tank -- must be connected and operational for the evaporative cooling function to work. The fan/exhaust function operates without water.
  • Do not operate in freezing temperatures. Drain the reservoir and water lines before storage in cold weather to prevent cracking.
  • The unit draws 4.6 amps maximum at high speed on 12V DC. Verify that your wiring, fuse, and solar/battery system can supply adequate current before installation.
  • Overall rooftop footprint is 35 x 22 x 11.5 inches. Confirm clearance from roof obstructions, slide-toppers, and awning hardware before ordering.
How does the Spin Spray Technology work:

The cooling is caused by evaporation. The warm dry outside air, with its low relative humidity, is pulled into the unit by the fan, while water is being sprayed, by our unique spin spray pump, on a cylindrical porous filter. As the dry air is forced through the wet filter by the fan, the water is evaporated, which cools the air coming out of the cooler. This cool air must be allowed to flow freely through the RV or facility being cooled and out through a window, door or vent. If the air is restricted the cooling will be less. The size of the RV or facility being cooled, how well it is insulated, exterior temperature and humidity are just some of the variable factors that can affect the cooling efficiency.

Troubleshooting:

UNIT DOES NOT OPERATE:
1. Try switches at all speeds in both directions.
2. Check wire connections at switches, resistors, at wire nuts and at power supply.
3. Check fuse and charge level of battery.
4. If installed on trailer and operated on vehicle battery, check if inner connection correct.
5. With speed switch in OFF position, remove hood. Rotate fan by hand to check for interference with venturi opening, filter, pump rubbing on bottom of baffle or motor frozen.
6. Check for mineral/salt deposits in and around mechanical parts such as fan blade, spin-spray pump and water cup.

INADEQUATE COOLING:
1. If no air flow, check above items 1 thru 5.
2. Check water level, water supply lines and valve.
3. Check filter and pump. If dirty, clean as directed under maintenance.
4. Check to see pump cone tip is submerged in water and check 1/2 - 3/4" clearance between end of pump cone and bottom of circular water pan.
5. If water depth is less than 3/4" - 1" depress float and observe if water is flowing thru the valve. Refer to Item 5, "Adjustment Procedures" on Page 9 to reset.
6. Check filter for mineral/salt deposits that can cause the filter to perform very poorly.

EXCESS VIBRATION:
1. Check fan blades and pump cone, rotating by hand. Note whether fan blades are broken or if cone set screw is loose. Are fan blades hitting filter or edge of venturi opening?
2. Check for loose screws, loose or deteriorated rubber motor mounting bushings. Replace if needed.
3. Excessive mineral/salt deposits can cause imbalance in the fan blades and the spin-spray pump - in turn, creating a vibration.

WATER LEAKAGE:
1. Check to make sure your unit is mounted on a portion of the roof level with the ground.
2. Check water level in unit. In Installation Manual refer to Item 5, "Adjustment Procedures," on Page 9 for float valve adjustment.

EXCESS WATER CONSUMPTION:
1. Check items listed under Water Leakage above.
2. If rate of water consumption is not due to a leak but instead only during operation, remember, your TurboKOOL is providing cooling effect in proportion to the water consumed. Under conditions of high temperatures and low humidity, more water is used.
3. Severe driving conditions, such as rough roads or sharp turns cause excessive action of the float valve and allows the unit to overfill. See item 12 in Installation Instructions.

Recommended Routine Maintenance
1. Every 6 months or as needed, remove the filter and clean by hosing down with water from outer surface inward, or soak in a bucket of soap & water or apple cider vinegar to loosen dirt, alkaline etc. If your TurboKOOL is used in certain areas where the water has high alkali content, it may be desirable to clean more often. In these areas it may be to your advantage to have an extra filter on hand.
2. Check the spin-spray pump cone for caking of alkali and clean off with fine steel wool. Make sure the holes at top of cone are not clogged. Since the inside of the cone pump can also become caked with alkali, you may wish to replace it periodically if performance drops.
3. The motor is equipped with factory oiled and sealed bearings. Under normal use, the bearings need no additional oil. If used in high alkali areas for long periods of time, a drop of oil in the lower bearing (3-in-1 or sewing machine oil) will help. We recommend that you turn on your TurboKOOL, either wet or dry, at least once a month and run for 5 minutes or more, even during the off season.
4. Before the start of the warm season, check the condition of the filter, motor mount grommets and wiring. Replace if they are cracked, brittle or deteriorating.
5. To clean the circular water pan, remove the hood and 4 screws, and the 3 screws holding the motor mount assembly. Remove (as an assembly) - the motor, 10" fan and the spin-spray pump. Gently turn over and lay to one side. Remove the filter. Remove the two thumb screws holding the baffle ring onto the water tray. You may now wipe out the circular water tray.
