LippertPart 143676Idler SideLippert Inboard Outer Slide Out Arm Tube Assembly -- 2.5 x 2.5 Inch Tubing, Idler Side

When a bent, cracked, or worn arm tube is causing your slide room to rack, bind, or travel unevenly, this is the OEM Lippert replacement you need. The 143676 is the inboard outer arm tube for the idler side of Lippert rack-and-pinion slide systems using 2.5 x 2.5 inch square steel tubing -- the same tube that ships on new coaches from the factory.

Direct-Fit Replacement for Lippert Rack-and-Pinion Slide Systems

Lippert's rack-and-pinion slide-out systems are among the most common slide mechanisms found in travel trailers, fifth wheels, and Class A and C motorhomes built over the past two decades. Over time, the arm tubes that carry the slide room in and out can develop cracks, bends, or corrosion -- especially at the inboard end where road vibration and load stress concentrate.

The 143676 targets the inboard outer tube on the idler side. In a typical two-tube rack-and-pinion setup, the drive side holds the motor and gear rack while the idler side mirrors the motion passively. Both sides must be in matched, undamaged condition for the room to travel straight and seal correctly. Replacing only the damaged tube restores proper geometry without requiring a full arm assembly replacement.

OEM Lippert Part

Manufactured to the same spec as the tube installed at the factory. No adapting or shimming required on compatible slide systems.

2.5 x 2.5 Inch Square Tubing

Matches the standard tubing dimension used across a wide range of Lippert inboard rack-and-pinion slide assemblies.

Idler Side Position

Correct replacement for the non-motorized side of the slide arm pair. Do not interchange with the drive-side tube.

Inboard Outer Location

Designed for the outer (room-facing) tube at the inboard mounting position -- verify your arm configuration before ordering.

Understanding Slide Out Arm Tube Positions

Lippert rack-and-pinion systems use a set of nested or paired tubes to extend and retract the slide room. The terminology can be confusing. Here is how to read the position description:

  • Inboard: The end of the arm that mounts to the main RV frame, as opposed to the outboard (room) end.
  • Outer: In systems with concentric or nested tubes, "outer" refers to the tube with the larger profile that surrounds or sits outside the inner tube.
  • Idler side: The side of the coach that does NOT have the slide-out motor. The idler side follows the drive side -- if the idler tube is damaged, the room will rack or skew during travel.
Why the idler side matters: Even though the motor lives on the drive side, the idler arm carries roughly half the load of the slide room. A damaged idler tube causes the room to drag on one corner, accelerating seal wear and potentially jamming the mechanism mid-travel.

Typical Repair Scenario

This part is most commonly needed when:

  • The slide room moves unevenly or one corner drags during extension or retraction.
  • Visual inspection shows a cracked weld, bent tube, or corrosion through the tube wall on the idler-side inboard arm.
  • The room seals leak on one side because the room is no longer traveling parallel to the coach wall.
  • A road hazard or debris strike damaged the undercarriage slide components.
Tip: Before ordering, photograph your existing arm assembly from both the drive side and idler side. Count the tubes, note whether yours uses a single outer tube or nested inner/outer configuration, and confirm the 2.5 x 2.5 inch tubing dimension. Lippert has produced several slide arm generations -- the 143676 is specific to the configuration described above.

Installation Notes

Replacing a slide arm tube is a structural repair that requires supporting the slide room's weight during the procedure. The room must be fully extended and blocked, the tube disconnected from its mounting brackets and any rack hardware, and the new tube fitted, aligned, and fastened per Lippert's torque specifications before the room is retracted and tested.

Heads-up: After replacement, the slide room alignment should be checked and adjusted if needed. An out-of-alignment room will wear new seals prematurely even with a correct replacement tube installed. Consult a qualified RV technician if you are not experienced with slide-out structural repairs.
Maintenance tip: Inspect slide arm tubes seasonally. Clean road grime from tube surfaces, check welds at both the inboard and outboard ends for cracking, and lubricate any roller or guide contact points with a dry PTFE or lithium-based lubricant to reduce friction wear on the tube walls.

Important Information
  • This part is for the idler side only -- it is NOT interchangeable with the drive-side arm tube. Verify your side before ordering.
  • Confirm your system uses 2.5 x 2.5 inch square tubing. Lippert also produced systems with different tubing dimensions; installing an incorrect size will require shimming or will not fit.
  • Supporting the full weight of the slide room is required during installation. Do not attempt this repair without adequate blocking and support equipment.
  • Post-installation alignment check is required. An improperly aligned slide room can cause seal damage, water intrusion, and mechanism failure.
  • This is a structural component. If you are unsure whether this is the correct tube for your specific slide arm generation, contact Lippert technical support with your coach's VIN before purchasing.
